i got the 977 pro today along with a couple of batts...before i go and plug my new ones in im wanted to get familier with the charger with a junk tower hobby special....its a 1500mah Nicd 6 cell...

Heres my question....is there a formula i have to follow to discharge sucsessfully?...for some reason everytime a start a discharge cycle it runs for like 10 seconds and then comes to a "beeping" hault.

volts is reading 7.42....

Any help?....

Could you also include a formula for discharging Nihm's?

Thanks!
Jacob

The highest discharge rate on the 977 is 4 amps, so there really isn't that much of a drain on the battery. What's probably happenning is the voltage is dropping and the charger is shutting down. Pay attentuion to the voltage when it shuts off, it should be below 6.5 volts. It's typical that the battery will recover and the voltage will rebound back up to 7.2 - 7.4 volts. So even though the battery is considered discharged it will still show voltage. There really isn't a formula for discharging. You may need to cycle the batteries a few times if they've been sitting for a while, but otherwise just charge them up and run them. If you get new NiMH batteries, it's very typical for them to false peak on the first couple of full charges, until the voltage stabilizes. Just keep hitting the start button until the chager shuts off and the battery gets warms.
The 1500 mah NiCd battery, I would charge at no higher than 4.5 amps and use 50mv. Any other questions let me kow.

You can use the discharge if you don't run the pack down all the way and want to bring it down, or you want to test the batteries capacity to see if you've lost any of it's life. Also, sometimes it's good just to cycle the packs slow to help equalize the cells. So while you may not be using the discharge all of time, it's nice to have.

right ok...

So then how do i get it to do a complete discharge is my question....it only stays on the discharge cycle for like 3m.....and then it turns off...and this is a fully charged 1500mah Nicd battery.
