Blitz,

We are working on an ARMORED CAR with a Pz TUrret !!! WE had planned on making it ready for this year but ran out of time... SO for next year we will have a true armored train!! Think of the cool battle scenarios you could run with it being armored!!
If you want to make it full function that would be awesome!!!

-LMK

LOTS more pics and even some video perhaps....LOTS COMING TONIGHT after work!!

Stay tuned!!

Everything went really well.... as stated before... Weather was perfect, ground was dry, Great spectator crowd, Dana Lowell made it in from N.C.

Lots of great battles, and even a few night battles,,,

Can't wait for next year.... Hope all who missed this year and wanted to attend can make it next year!! SAVE THE DATE NOW!!! It will be the same weekend in 2009, ALWAYS 3rd WEEKEND IN SEPT!!!!

-CHEERS!

TOMAS
TX ARMOR!!

Views of the waterfall and the entrances to "BOMBENFELDBERG"
WE had lots of great static models to add to the aimbience of the diorama...
It was fun for the spectators to find snipers on the roof tops, GI's cutting power lines etc....

Photos of the Battlefield... lots of great areas to ambush an opponent,,, also places to shoot and scoot... and some fun sniper hide outs... the BATTLEFIELD is 130 ft x 50 ft = 6500 sq ft.... all great terrain .... I believe only 1 set of tracks was thrown.. but that was because I was doing donuts to showoff after the battles to get the crowd of spectators really pumped up for the next show!!

the train runs on over 200ft of track... it is radio control and one can control it from one position without having to move around...
can't wait until next year to be running the battle equipped armored train car with DBU or ELMOD installed !!

Tomas,

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to take and post all the photos; this has been so cool to follow! The battle field looks great, hats off to Texas Armor. Also its nice to hear that the Tamiya PZ IV performed so well in combat; although I was planning on waiting for the next Tamiya Allied tank, I may have to reconsider.

Congratulations T.A.

Steve P.

Great pics Tomas, I need to get moonshadow to paint my TC. That pic of Randys Tank with the TC shading his eyes is just too cool.

FOR THOSE OF YOU who are not subscribed to the yahoo group armornuts,,, Just wanted to post a review by Dana Lowell from the R/C TANK CLUB HEATARMOR ;

Sept 23, 2008

Re: Tank Fan Report - Texas Armor Battleday! -RECAP

It was cool! (The battles, not the weather, that is!) I had a blast. But the
most memorable thing I take away from this weekend was how nice the entire gang
at TEXAS ARMOR was. I hope all you other tank buffs get to visit the Texas
battlefield someday.

Thanks to Tomas Sandoval and his wife for the hospitality. And it was cool to
meet some of the tankers that I know from the internet, like Nick Aguilar, Dan
Vreeland and Mike Maloney. And I bought a new resin turret and transmission cover for my
Sherman from Nick Aguilar. (I'll post a build article soon). Thanks for the good
deal! Dan Vreeland was the master of pyro this weekend! He electrically set off
gunpowder squibs all over the field during battles...something that we can't get
away with inside the AAF Tank Museum! And Mike Maloney did what I like to do in Danville,
make all the PA announcements to the crowd for play-by-play commentary.

Before I left Sunday, I donated my Tamiya Tiger I to TAA so they could use 50%
of the money for the battlefield and 50% for Red Cross hurricane Ike relief. It was
the Tiger that I bought from Doug Gasser, with long cans, gear reduction, Doug's custom shocks on
the idlers, plus spare tracks and extra parts sprues. I hope they can sell it for
parts, or at very least, use it as a static wreck on the battlefield. Besides, I was worried that
the airline baggage handlers were just going to smash it on my flight home anyway...!

Hey, I have some pics to show!

Here is the formal group photo. (It was Sunday afternoon, so some of the 14
local tankers had already left). That 7 year old in the middle kicked butt with
his
Pershing!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2874.JPG

OK, let's take a little tour of huge Texas battlefield. It's a little
longer than the Danville indoor field, at about 50' by 130', so it was actually
possible to be
out of range of the enemy IR...at about 90' under sunlight conditions:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2832.JPG

Here is the waterfall and railroad tunnel at the South end:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2814.JPG

Here the American engineers have captured a Jurassic dino turd! Just
kidding...it's a
cool truck and dozer:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2853.JPG

Wow, somebody had fun burning this static Tiger!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2834.JPG

Speaking of burning...one building had a smoke machine that ran all day for
combat effect:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2836.JPG

The fully operational large-scale German train really added to the action.
Some battle scenarios were even based on escorting or capturing the train! I've
got some
cool low-angle video of my Jumbo "Mostly Broken" almost getting run over by that
train!!!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2812.JPG

The train had an awesome hospital car and half-track on board:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2847.JPG

One of the buildings turns into a handy tank carrier box after the battles:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2844.JPG

Lots and lots of static vehicles and figures all over the Texas field:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2839.JPG

One of the buildings downtown has mirrors in the windows so you can shot
your IR shots around corners! Notice the city streets are made of large sheets
of tarpaper:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2837.JPG

Here is Tomas Sandoval's outstanding new Tamiya Panzer IV. It was a big
success in it's first battles. Those narrow tracks never came off, and the motor
sounds
are cool. Heand I made a great fire team! Notice his custom anti-bazooka
screens:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2871.JPG

My all-time favorite tank shape has always been the JagdPanther. Check out
Carl's hand-crafted zimmerit job:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2860.JPG

This is the inside of their new clubhouse next to the battlefield:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2829.JPG

Here is their nice frequency board. They have to take extreme care with
radios because of all the $10,000.00 RC airplanes flying overhead!!!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2831.JPG

The "Tank Widows" handled the raffles for RC tank prizes. They were very
friendly to all the tankers and lots of fun to joke around with:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2826.JPG

Let's not forget about the RC aircraft convention next door! Regardless of
being held just one week after hurricane Ike, thousands of spectators came out
to see 100 pilots fly their models! Here a guy lands his "flying lawnmower":
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2798.JPG

The RC jets were amazing! So loud...like leaf blowers on crack!!! Pairs
of jets made low passes and then shot straight up to perform mid-air stalls!
Here is a cool jet that is about 10' long and costs around 20 grand!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2800.JPG

Here I'm shooting video of a giant B-17 model. When that thing flew over
our tank battles, it looked like the real thing!
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2802.JPG

I got to meet the owner of the airfield ranch and the guy who built most of
these jumbo RC bombers...
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2804.JPG

Like a kid in a candy store! I shoot video of the inside of his Super
Fortress:
http://www.lowell.to/tanks/IMG_2803.JPG

Saturday afternoon BB Weber dropped these flour bombs for the crowd...very
cool:

Check out this large-scale RC Stuka. I'm pointing at the real dive-bombing
sirens!

The whole weekend was great. Like a weekend at Disney World or something. I
recommend you all take the plunge and invest in the trip someday too.

Tomas, thanks for the cool T-shirt and the excellent Tex-Mex meal too! See
y'all there or here next time! -Dana

If I win the lottery, I'm moving to Texas! One thing I'd fund personally is a pan/tilt camera rig in the 'bell tower' for an 'artillery spotter', possibly with an IR receiver so he can be 'destroyed' (and mebbe blow the top off the tower w/ a compressed air charge - make spares of cardboard & balsa)

I'd also ask moonshadow to paint me a few (dozen) tanks... building I can do myself (thats half the fun)

That battlefield is amazing... has anyone taken clips of it, or done a 'flyover' similar to the one done for the Danville battlepark?

Brings me back to one of my ideas... one of the R/C dirigibles/zeppelin (depends on allegiance/paint job) w/ a camera in it for arty spotting and some gorgeous 'flyover during battle' video's. I hear they use some of the bigger ones at sporting events to 'airdrop' prizes in the crowd.
