Noah, Yes the plans show the incidence of the horizontal zero to the thrust line. The plane flies fine that way and by all means, build it per the plans...

I Have been building these since the plans first came out. (I guess 7-8) I have always zeroed the horizontal to the wing which is about 2.5 degrees. This makes sure the tail flies high like it should.. On My build video of this plane I even show that I match the horizontal to the wing. I have designed my own planes and use this set up on all of them.

An example: I have an airplane I built years back. ( I still have it) We call it my P. O. S. plane.
I took the wing from the meister 109 and I lengthened the center part so it went straight for a little while then tapered down. Any way more or less the same wing... Well I set this wing with the flat bottom equal to the thrust line.( just like the 109 setup) I also set the tail just like the 109 plans, zeroed to the thrust line.. The plane has flown well and is very stable but the tail flys what looks like a tail low attitude..

Oh the tail brace... The tail brace has been ommited by many. It was an over kill as far as strength. ( if we are talking about the cross type brace at the rear of the horizontal and vertical?). Most are sheeting the horizontal which is plenty of strength in that area...

Hi, Ty. Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes the tail brace, but what I'm taking about is the angle at which the brace is set. The plans show that the tail brace should be recessed into F3 (at the top) and into F2 (at the bottom). This is the angle I'm talking about. I haven't fitted the tail to the fuse yet (and the wing is not yet finished) so I don't know if the horizontal will have too much positive incidence relative to to the wing.

Sorry if I'm not being clear.

Look at post #8 (second picture from left) of this thread. Pandissix set the tail brace flush with the trailing edge of the vertical stab (fin). My set-up (as built according to the plans) has the tail brace tilted relative to the trailing edge of the fin.

Not sure of that's clear.

Update... Not much to report... Sanded the new balsa fuselage bottom. I applied a little micro-light filler to the bottom of the fuselage and sanded out a few low spots. I glassed the bottom of the fuse with some heavy cloth about 12 inches from the rudder post forward over the repair seams and edges followed by 2 layers of 3/4" oz. cloth on top of the heavy cloth to almost the trailing edge of the wing. Once cured I trimmed everything up and applied a flow coat of Z-Poxy on top of the layup with a foam roller. Just playing the "Watch the epoxy cure game". I did manage to get out for a couple of flights on my 50cc 3D YAK-54 this morning at the local AMA field. Should have her ready for ya next week Rich.

Update... Sanded glass work on bottom of fuse. Applied thinned down glazing putty with a paint brush. Sanded all of the putty mixture off. Applied Micro-Lite to right side and blended into fin. Primed bottom of fuselage around tail wheel area with 2 coats automotive primer. Final adjusted and installed tail wheel assembly, soldered top collar of arm to tail wheel wire. Applied Lock-Tite to both set screws. ready to start sealing up the open hole in the left side of fuselage next.

I think I have narrowed my paint scheme choice down to 2? Well that is if the RC Gods smile on me and the test flights go well. So I like the JG 54 "Black 8" Shown in this photo. I also like the "Yellow 20" on the JG 7 ME 109 G-14 with old style three part cockpit canopy. I believe that JG 7 was one of the first operational ME 262 Sqds even before JV 44, so that maybe an interesting scheme and cool factor for history. RCU seems to be down right now. So I will upload pictures when they fix the bugs.

Todd, Book is called ME 109 volume II from 1942 to 1945 by Dominique Breffort and Andre Jouineau. Excellent resource, that I think Ty referred to me some time ago. I picked it up off Amazon for about $15 bucks so it is a steal. Dont worry David...if you dont have one I picked you up a extra copy for your resource library.

got that book here Rich. hmmmmm, tough call, but I'm partial to JG54
and besides, the yellow 20 scheme you showed is for the tall tail, and you have
the shorter tail

AWESOME! I don't have that one.

I have always been partial to Georg Amon's G-6/Tropical White 9 "Seemann"

Update... Added a little more backing inside the fuselage for the new 1/8 balsa sheeting. Traced, cut and installed the new 1/8" balsa sheeting. Filled seams and applied more Micro-lite.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel!
