Hi Everyone;

Greetings once again from the really dangerously Thong and Bikini infested Beaches of Manasota Key, Englewood Florida; yes, it is a tuff job, but someone has to patrol these beaches.

Re da Live Wires: As discussed before, all Hal's kit production RCs were called Live Wire 'something or others', the fist being his LW Senior of which supposedly only 250 kits were hand cut, then followed by the much smaller LW Trainer, then the LW Cruiser. All of these had flat bottomed airfoils. Then came the magazine articles for the high wing'Over and Under' in a mid 50s Air Trails and the low wing'Crusader' around 57 0r 59 in American Aircraft Modeler. These 2 designs had fully semmetrical airfoils and were then produced as kits: the LW Sonic Cruiser and Pursuit, + they were joined by Hals legendary LW Custom Bipe. All featured the same 66" ws wing and same airfoil. I have kits for all of these designs, and the original mag plans. Hal also produced many other RC kits at this time like the very similar and fine flying LW Champ and Cub, Cosmic Wind, Kitten, Ercoupe, oh boy I cannot think of any more rite now, but have'em all and luv'em dearly.

I hope this has answered a few querries, best regards from Florida, now; I gotta get back to that dangerous beach patrol........

Joe Nagy.

Do you have a date on your plans by any chance? Also could you compare the height and width midway the under wing/radio box area. Mine is 7" high and 4 1/4 wide + or - a 1/16. My wing is 12" wide. I was told the Cruiser fuse. was wider and taller than mine. This info would resolve my courosity. From the history of the plane I have always felt 90% sure it was a Cruiser. But someone in the "know" that saw it in person brought up serious doubts. Thanks Bill

I believe you have a Cruiser. Here are the measurements.
The width of the fuseglage at the wing leading edge is 4 1/4". At the trailing edge of the wing is 4". The height of the fuse at the LE is 7 1/2" and 6 3/8" at the TE. The height at the CG is 7 1/8". Yes the wing cord is 12". No date on the plans.

Joe,
By any chance do you patrol the beaches with suntan lotion in hand? For emergency use of course.

Hi Mike;

Re your querry about carrying sun-tan lotion for emergencies: Yes I do, Industrial Strength Sun-Tan lotion indeed, for those poor little sunburnt Thong/Bikini clad victems. But of even more importance, for the sake of personal safety to myself, is to carry a good amount of First Aid type Skin Care cream or ointments, to apply when needed, like when you get 'too close' sometimes, those Thong 'snap-backs', cause simply vicious welts, abrasions even, and ooh ooh-ouch even, do they ever sting. What is really needed is a good all around Anti-Thong Snap-Back medicinal ointment, or even better yet. a good Thong or Anti-Thong Repellant. Oops, 'Theeee-yoooong, ouch-ooh', [I'm on patrol, and got a little too close to a'nudder one, yes another vicious self infliced welt, it is serious work indeed]. I only hope to be all healed up in time for the Perry, GA Swapmeet. There Mike, I hope that answered your question.....Best regards from da Beach,

Joe Nagy.

Thanks everyone! I saw one one of them models Joe is talking about! Definitely a Live Wire! Lotion thong and all! In my search for the difference in the LW Senior and the LW Cruiser I was talking to a friend of mine a UC guy in texas and he is sending me 3 vintage RC kits still in the box and one is a LW Senior. I couldn' beleive it. Still can't. Will be here next week. I will definitely post pics. Thanks again Bill. I am still working on the RC slides from the early 50s.

The LiveWire nameplate as used by DMECO may be related to a "Radio control" airplane, but not to production.

A few years ago, I had the AMA plans librarian and Joe Nagy inspect one of the orginal vellums for the Viscount Twin, which was drawn in pencil, and signed and dated by Hal. It had the Lightning bolt LiveWire logo and all on it.

That was one model which never got put into production. (The single Vicount did, but not the twin.)

Mike you got something wrong on your plans listing.

The Hartman Zeus II was never kitted nor had plans available. I got one lone blueprint off the original master vellum. The note on the blueprint says to use the original Interceptor wing also. The Interceptor (One, the original) was displayed in Model Airplane News. The Interceptor Five was in American Modeler. They are wholely different looking models. Fact is if you read the accompanying article, it will explain a bit about the variants.

The Viscount came in least three single engine models and two as in the twins.

The Live Wire Champ was known as the Custom for a year or two, also had couple of other names, and a couple of versions from two point to tricycle gear. Was originally single channel use, then got to six channel. All under same old nameplate. This was ironed out with the AMA a few years ago.

Interesting too is that DMECO had a few more controlliners ready to go, but...?

Wm.

William,
Yes, I have the MAN plans for the Interceptor Mk. I and the Hartman fuselage that was made for that design. Therefore my Zeus/Interceptor designation. Hartman designed his stuff to take any wing that would fit, usually a Taurus wing and tail. Same for the Zeus Mk. I which could use a Taurus wing and tail. Had one of these years ago with the Taurus wing and stab, vertical fin and canopy from a Sterling P-63 (R.I. Pieces). With a Veco .45 it flew like it was on rails.

If you wanted to, you could roll your own for these fuselages.

I found this in the AMA plans section.
