A couple of questions, this will be my first year racing Club 40 (any racing for that matter); I have 2 Sky Raiders which I will hang TT Pro 40s on.

Engine calls for 10X6 props, however some suggest 9X6; is this the route to go, and why the 9X6 over the 10X6. Also which brand of prop, probably APC right?

Do you use the control throws indicated in the manual? or what throws work for this plane for Pylon Racing? what about EXPO setting on your radio, again what works for Pylon Racing for this plane.

Do you use a spinner or prop nut; if you use a spinner, what size are you allowed?

Thanks.

We are working to get consistancy over here in NC & SC to use the APC 9X6 only. It's also the same engine/prop combo used in 424 (sempra). The plane does just fine with this prop.
I don't use plastic spinners on engines that I want to spin fast. Either an aluminum spinnner or a prop nut like Dubro, pspec, or Jett sells. I use the Dubro ones for now.

After flying around three poles with others I learned to back way off of the throws. As I practice more I am slowly getting rid of expo too. This is only for racing trim tho. If you want to cut up with it higher throws are a hoot. I have it set up with dual rates.

Have fun this year.

Just playing with you. daaaguum. Hey, I have had 6 flights on it now and was going to race this weekend but will play in the snow instead. Maybe we can practice a little before the next race???? My schedule is not bad the next couple of weeks. Call if you can go when it is warmer.

Daaagum is right! (Daagum should've been his online name! )
I know you guys are teasing. Shoot I am the biggest goof in here when Basin Bum and Cyclic Hardover are offline.

Richard, I didn't know you had yours finished. Seth and I are thinking about going down to Lowe's motor speedway for a demo and help Don out next weekend. You are welcome to ride with us.

Skull, did you get 159 for your race number? That is so cool isn't it. Someday you need to meet up with the socal guys, it's like long lost family when we get togeather. Shoot come out here for our speed rally this summer.

Close, I got 59I. Yes 159 is my revver number, but my old number from my car and motorcycle racing days was 59,,,,,so. It is cool that my revver number is so close to that old race number.

I still want to see what the revver brotherhood stickers look like, and get some to put on my planes. I wonder if I can have it painted in the mold when we order a Nene-Q?

Hey Guys, Back on Subject, I was looking for some feedback on the original questions; does anyone else have prop size suggestion other than the APC 9X6 for the TT Pro 40 on the Skyraider; and what control throws and expo does everyone recommend? the other point I wanted to make, and not sure if its just in Texas, but I will be racing 2 pole courses and not sure if the plane & prop set up is different for 3 or 2 pole?

Doug,

The prop depends on the course. If you are flying the 400' 2 pole course, you don't want the APC 9x6. I've seen Chuck Waller mention the APC 10x5. Some guys even go for the 10x4 if they are flying a really tight course. I would think the 10x5 would be a good starting point.

In terms of throws, the recommended throws in the manual definitely won't work for racing. You'll be all over the sky. The recommended CG is fine though. I can tell you that I use approximately 3/16" up and down on both aileron and elevator. Maybe just a little less on aileron. On a JR/Spektrum radio, I use about 20% expo and low dual rates of about 60-70%. ( Yielding the 3/16" ). On a Futaba radio, I use -30 to -40 for expo.

The weather is bad here this weekend. I'll check a couple of my planes and write up some recommendations. More and more guys are going to need this info.

In my opinion it is best to start with too much expo and gradually work it out. These planes are quite responsive and flying a smooth course is key to having a good time and winning.

You asked about spinners. I've gone to using Dubro spinner nuts. I can't tell any difference in performance and the spinner nuts are much more convenient. I think they may even add just a very tiny bit of speed. While the supplied spinners spread the air out, they also have boat-tail drag.

I like spinner nuts also, they are convenient, and work well.

Probably doesn't make as much difference on the Club 40 stuff, but if you concerned about weight. The dubro spinner weighs .9 oz and the 1/4 28 spinner Darrol sells weights .5 oz. Nearly 1/2 an oz difference. This was enough for me to get away from them a few years ago.

Seconding what Don said. If you are not required to have a certain prop, you will want to experiment and listen to the other guys. Lots of the guys in South-Central Texas use the 10 X 4 APC on the 396 or 400-foot course. The shorter the course, the more pull out of the turns. The longer the course, the more pitch.

If a prop is specified, you gotta use it. Obvious!
