Ronnie & LCS -

Are AMA chartered RC Car and Boat clubs required to exclude non-AMA members? Do such clubs push the need for $2.5 Mil liability insurance on site owners? How about 200 mph speed limits - am I correct in assuming that would only apply to turbine powered vehicles? And 55 lb weight limit...........surely AMA will recognize the need for Park Drivers and Park Skippers Programs for second class modelers with smaller and less speedy boats and cars. FL and CA require $20K liability insurance on my road tanks, but I'll need $500K personal coverage in the LHS parking lot or boat pond in Central Park. Whoopee!

Call me silly Abel, but I think the AMA is not targeting car and boat operators directly, they are giving the extra protection to current AMA RC members whom choose to also be covered if their interest is also to include boats and cars, in addition to airplanes. I'd be surprised if there was 1 AMA designated car club, not tied to an airplane club. Meaning an AMA car club that was birthed from the ground up with no RC airplane influence.

Just another added benefit from the AMA which some members can take advantage of and others can find a reason to complain about. Just because you think the AMA is silly for offering "too much" doesn't mean others aren't thankful for the extra protection. I would bet the insurance premium for this addition is not even negligible.

The Insurance summary
The facts about ama's insurance
for individuals members

Model aircraft, rockets, cars and boats are included with the same amount of insurance. $2.5 mil body, prop, with an overall $15,000,000 in the aggregate provided through additional poilicy(s)

This is from the ama's membership manual for the year 2000 that I have on hand
