Any flying experience? If you are a completely new to flying, then seek out a local flying club to get flight instruction. No matter what you build, crashing on the first day is not a good thing. If you are an experienced pilot, then any of the designs on spadtothebone.com would be fine. The Spadett is a great plane for both novice pilots, and experienced pilots. Its a relaxing and easy to build plane.

HTH.

I agree with Feeddacat. If you have never flown gas or electric, go to a local club and get an instructor. You would really hate too spend $250 for Tramsmitter, Flight Pack, Engine, and Flight Box Gear just for 5 seconds of fun and crash. Beleave me, I know. Got an instructor. Now I go to the field every time I can. The below zero temps is the only thing stopping me right now.

The Spadet is a great flying machine as long as you take your time. I have two built. One for me and one for my brother-in-law. It is a great trainer IMHO.

CA glue works great along with gorilla glue (bought at Menards, Lowes, Fleet Farm, etc.).

Check the posts for anyone in your area flying SPADs. They are a great sorce of knowledge right there. Just be polite.

the debonair is alsoa great plane, I built the standard one and I just built a larger one. a six foot wingspan, my boy can see the orientation better with the larger plane. I will be maidening the larger plane today. the reg deb can take a beating. study the spadtothebone site and you will see all of the building aspects. before you know it you will have a dozon spads built. I have five. they are easy and cheap. find a local club as soon as you can. The guys are usually great, and you might even see a spad or two. The flying training will be the best. Get you AMA, you wont be able to solo unless you have it, thats the rules at most club sites. best of all you might be able to do some coroplast trading for equipment or selling the stuff to other members LOL

study the build techniqes on STTB website, I just use a phillips screwdriver and a straight edge, 2 or three passes are enough

The website listed above by draftman1 is a good one with tons of info. After you have read that one, check out the spadworld.net forum. There is much more info there on any topic that you might think of. You could read for a week solid and couldn't read it all, and most any question that you have you could find the answer there too. Utilize the search feature and you should finds lots of help.

Good luck with whatever you decide, and be sure and post pics and flight reports. We love to see that stuff.

I did a (3 pages?) summary of all gluing methods from the original spad site. Go to the site in my sig and download it.

Hi Bretd123
Nice looking SPAD3DT. I had one just like it and had a lot of fun with it. To fly that model you need lots of props. One day, after a few months of flying it, I broke 4 props, APC 12X4. I bought props six at the time. Most expensive spad I have ever had. Don't judge all spads by the way this one flys. This one is good at 3D and terrible at anything else. Eventually I cut it up and used the parts to make a SPAD Canard. You can search for the plans on RCUniverse. I also have a Flying Lawnmower here.

Build a spadet or debonair for begining and save the 3D plane for later fun. I have flown them all and all are fun but you won't be abble to fly the 3d bird with out learning how to trim and land etc.

Yes dear, I did glue my hand to the airplane to keep from dropping it.
