Hi guys,
This is a totally non-model thing.

My son who's turning 17 in a few weeks, has his mind set on doing a Highschool year in the US. There are several institutions that arrange such stays, and he has applied through one of them http://www.aspectfoundation.org/

His problem is allergies. He's allergic to some food stuffs, nothing dramatic or potentially threating, but nevertheless, Aspect has failed to find him a suitable host family.

I know most americans to be very hospitable, so I have some difficulties in accepting that my son was rejected.

If any one of you should happen to help me out here, I'll be very happy, even as this means sending my son off for a full year.
What we are looking for is a normal family, nothing fancy. The only prerequisite is that this family can't have any pets. At least not any pets with fur.

Send me a PM if you have any ideas here, or want to join as a host family.

Best regards
Kjell Aanvik

Institutions and organizations that facilitate such "exchange" stays do a screening and background checks on guests and host families. I hope that if you get a response to accept your son, you have some means to also do such qualifying checks before sending your son off. Best of luck to you.

Are you a Rotary Member? I used to be quite involved with the program and that might be another avenue for you.

No, we're not members of Rotary.
We've tried the conventional ways, applying through agencies as American Field Service www.afs.org and Aspect www.aspectfoundation.org

The "problem" is that they can't come up with a host family that don't have any furry pets.
I'm not totally convinced that the mentioned agencies go the full extent in their search and just turn us down as "unfit" due to allergies as that is much easier.
What they say is that if we can come up with a suitable host family, we'll be accepted into the program.

Kjell
