Regardless of whether it flies well or has bad characteristics, I still think its a neat idea. it does tend to get boring to see almost 95% of all the planes at any 424 or 428 race are still just another spin off of Jim Allens Quick V. you will still see an occational doddger, scat cat, t-tail planebut its nice to see something "out of the box thinking " like the whale, or hauler. Great job Dave ! did you used to color "out side the lines" too ?

Dave, I only hope it fails because if it is a success, Q500 will have the same look as those gawdawful looking altered wheel base dragsters of the 60s.

Edited to say something nice......hmm, can't think of anything right now, check back later.

I thought maybe we would see the maiden on Saturday but all Dave brought to the field was beer..

Don't get me wrong, if I had to choose between the 2 I would have picked beer anyway

Ole Humpy almost made its debut on Saturday, but I'm holding off for a less nice day. The field was pretty busy with the finally nice weather. I want very few spectators, I mean, errr, targets.

Or witnesses?

Actually, what would witnesses hurt? You've already shown pics of it to the world!

Vicman, remember saying this?

you might want to name it Kansas or some other strange name that has no consequence.

Looks like Kansas #1 tonight. North Carolina not playing. Why? Kansas the other night too.

Just found these secret test flight photos of a 1/2 a whale look-a-like.

Test flights went well, but it was very windy and it was hard to tell if it had any bad habits.

Shouldn''t the airplane be flying in order for them to be called "test flight photos"?

Flights were completely uneventful. Flew just fine. Does look a bit strange though with only half of a stab visible. Plane was build by Brad Rogers in Des Moines, IA just to see how it would fly. I think it flies better than last season''s swept wing "T" tail experiment. At least the Whale will turn!

We fly 1/2A here in the winter months (Nov. thru March) because they can be hand launched and landed in just about any weather conditions. Better than sitting at home!
