OK I'm in the process of remanufacturing my old 1/3 GP pitts and I've I've stripped the covering for a new design.built new firewall and and installed a DL50 gas engine. I have extended the tail feathers back 1" to slightly extend the tail moment. I was thinking of taking some or all of the dihedral out of the bottom wing. will that hurt the flight characteristics or help and how? Also if I do that will I need to move top wing down, bottom wing up ,or extend outer cabanes. Will it affect the CG? I have lots of questions and no answers. I want the plane to fly better than it did as a stock pitts if possible. I don't want an unpredictable piece of junk. I just playin arround with an old plane that I got bored with 5 years ago, but I don't want to waste my time making changes that hurt the plane instead of help. I have a 40sized ultimate that has parallel wings, JUST THINKING probably bad I know! LOL

You had some questions regarding taking some or all of the dihedral out of the bottom wing.
---will that hurt the flight characteristics or help and how? It depends. How did the airplane react (with the current amount of dihedral) when rudder was applied in level flight?
If the plane justed skidded sideways, then make no changes. The current dihedral is already OK for advanced aerobatics (e.g. 4-point rolls and knife-edge flight). In a typical aerobatic setup (for a plane that has a bottom wing with no sweepback and is located on the far-bottom side of the fuselage) each side of the bottom wing will be raised to provide a dihedral angle of about 2-degrees under each side of the wing.
If in your current setup, right rudder causes a right roll (and left rudder and left roll), then reducing the dihedral will help adjust the plane toward the setup desired for advanced aerobatics. I will, however, also reduce "stability" about the roll-axis.
If in your current setup, right rudder causes a left roll (and left rudder and right roll), then reducing the dihedral will make things "worse". The plane needs more dihedral to have the setup desired for advanced aerobatics.
---Also if I do that will I need to move top wing down, bottom wing up ,or extend outer cabanes. Change the length of the cabanes.
---Will it affect the CG? No.

Thanks,
for providing answers to my questions. After reveiwing the flight characteristics of the plane(as you recommended) ,the planes tendency wants the dihederal left as is or maybe just slightly reducing dihederal according to the reasoning behind your answers. Thanks for being thorough.
