You should be fine lz. That Clark YH will make up for any mistakes.

The funny thing is thats the same airfoil used on the MiG-3 and some of the earlier Polikarpov's. The Russians musta used them for a reason!

As far as I know, all russian fighters and most of others airplanes from WW2 use this airfoil. I had used it for various airplanes, and really is good, easy to work with. And gove good enough flying characteristics. I'm sure will be good enough for this airframe too.

Not even close Lz.

The Lagg (and thus the La family as well) family used the NACA 23016 wing root to NACA 23010 wing tip. A lot of the other Polikarpov used various TsAGI airfoils, Petlykakov Pe-2 used a NACA 23012, even the MiG-7 (I-221) changed its airfoil even though it was nearly identical to the MiG-3 to a NACA-234 (not quite sure what they meant by this one as I cannot find a NACA 234 airfoil.

Obviously I'm mistaken.

Lz-23 no offense was meant at all!

The Russians did use the Clark YH a lot in the early years, but as performance increases were needed they moved onwards and honestly used some rather weird airfoils at times.

The Clark YH is a great airfoil for model airplanes (all the Miester-Scale stuff uses a Clark Y or YH, havent taken a close look at them to figure out what ones).

No offense at all. I was thinking probably about yak fighters, but mistype or just my brain get melted. Anyway I'm moving forward with the wings. Should be able to post some pics soon.

Oh yeah the Yak family from WW2 are mostly all Clark YH's so yep, you got that one 100%.

I've been involved with racing full size Yak's at the Reno Air Races since 1990. The Clark YH is a good airfoil for models and fighter aircraft for low time pilots. However it's not the best airfoil for going really fast. I have been kicking around the idea to build a new wing for one of our Yak's to put a good laminar airfoil optomized for racing. I would really make a Yak competive on the race course. So many idea's, so little time, and money.....

The Clark YH didn't hurt the Yak-3 in the war... in fact it did really well for itself.

I'm a big fan of scale and the Clark YH translates very well to RC.

Yes Evil, I agree, but also lets not forget that this was one of the smallest and definitely the lightest fighter during that period. Certainly with more advanced airfoil this airframe would perform better, but even as is, still is a marvel IMHO.

Oh without a doubt! I'm quite sure with a laminar flow airfoil it would be wicked. But we are building a scale model here.

Absolutely! This is why I stick to the original airfoil. Good airfoil and easy to make.

Yes, I work with Tom Camp. We are based out of Hayward airport. And I do know Dasher
