I''ve been a real pilot for as long as I have been doing RC. Actually flying the real things got me into RC. It can be a bit less expensive at times and I don''t have to worry about my uniform, filling the tanks up or flying a flight report.

The first airplane is a Cessna 172 of course, owned and operated by the Civil Air Patrol, the Auxillary of the United States Air Force. I''m a lowly butter bar, but at least I can fly!

I start glassing the fuse. I want to finish with rough work and then will continue with panel lines, rivets and so on.

Fokke, its just the way some of us Americans are. We take our pariotism very seriously. So while we may be flying a Russian or former USSR bird some of us feel the need to make sure that people know we are still Americans.

its a Russian bird with American flavour.

Well considering its a Yak-11 conversion to a Yak-3, I don't know how accurate its going to be anyways. *grin*

Its possible the fine fellow who owns the aircraft wasn't trying for a warbird replication, rather something a little different. We will never know unless he tells us why I guess.

I tend to agree with you though, better to have left it in accurate paint job, but I cannot say this look is bad, its some incredible work.

I can say that patriotism is great thing, but as anything else is great as long as is not overdone. In this case as Evil say we have no clue why the owner of this airplane want this particular color scheme, so is hard to pass any judgments. I think is a very beautiful design, even though will look better on Mustang or Corsair. Simply is strange to see it on Yak...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that reproduction Yak going to be powered by an AMERICAN-MADE allison engine?

EDIT:
I am wrong! I didn't realize Warbird was restoring TWO yaks! The USA colors are on the yak-11

The strange thing is, I like it enough, that if I were to build a Yak-11, I would actually do that paint job. I think the job itself is fantastic, it just looks good in my opinion. Wrong in a way, but done in a way I cannot dislike it all that much.

Not the Yak-11. That will likely have one of the Chinese copies of the ASh-21 I would guess. I forgot about the Czech M-21 engine which is another development of the ASh-21 as well. I know these were in production for a bit longer than the ASh-21's.

I believe that Yak-3 will be powered by Allison engine. Really stunning workmanship! I can only admire such masterpieces!
