TargetG -> inverter + Mastec 5020 (1/20/2008 5:17:48 AM)

Hi,

I have some A123 large pack for a fast electric boat. I have a Mastec 5020 power suply and want to take it with me to the lake for fast charge. I want to ask if someone has being using the Mastec PS with an inverter? and if the anwer is yes, please tell me the brand of inverter and if it is thre or modified sine wave.

Thank you

Leon G

Leon: there has been discussion in RCGroups about this very thing. Check JRB,s posts and I'm sure you'll find them. He's even posted some findings running the inverter/Mastec from his idling truck. Tex.

Short answer is it takes a minimum 2000 watt inverter and the overall operating efficiency sucks. Between the inverter and the Mastech you end up with around 40% efficiency.

Not my post.

Snip:

I have calculated the efficiency of using the mastech via an inverter running from deep cycles to be about 40%. Inverter pulling 51 amps at 11.5 volts equals 586.5 watts. Mastech was putting out 412 watts as measured by the watt meter. I was charging a 12s2p pack of A123 cells at 10 amps. I guess it will do if nothing else will.
