DL picked a good engine to copy. I guess the only mistake he made in copying it was not allowing for the billet crankcase's lugs being so much stronger than cast ones, but he fixed that very quickly.

I hope that you'll update this thread, as others, reinforcing the FACT that these are different engines. They perform differently, but have some similarities to each other like nearly all engines made.
These really *are* two different engines, and most users I've talked with or read posts from in *both* camps agree.
They are different.
Which one is "better" seems to boil down to which one a person owns that runs the best for them.
The weather WILL improve, and we'll all be flying. I hope you'll update this through the spring/summer as you run them both, hopefully.

Bob...
Hope to run this thread along in a quiet informative manner as often as time permits..
Looking at the carb pictures in bigger sized photos the DA has numbers on of 642 and below left of this 201B...The DL has 739 and below left 880...
Here's the other side of the carb(s)..

RE: Side by side Photo's..DA & DL....
I had mine to bits before running to check everything, loctite the bolts, remove any swarf and clean up ports. I've had perhaps a hundred 2-strokes of various types in pieces before.
1. Combustion/squish area not a perfect glassy bowl, but it was fine. The one you have there is terrible!
2. The port edges on yours seem particularly rough. I looked at mine and saw no need to adjust them. Yours isn't pretty.
3. Bolts, gaskets and all ancilliary bits all good quality.
4. There was zero swarf.
Crank and piston looked good and minimal drag on the bearings. I wonder what yours will reveal next.
Arobatx asked where this particular DL came from - I'm also interested in that [sm=71_71.gif]

Thanks for that. There have been that many DL/DA slanging matches. It's good to know that's not where you are coming from.
More pics please [sm=regular_smile.gif]
I think we're down to piston, rod, crank and main bearings now [8D] [8D] [8D]
P.S. Can you get your perfectly focused camera on the DL spark plug hole (mine is fine, someone else has a loose thread); and inside the reed case on the DL (the rib that pops the reeds open when you don't want it). Likewise closeup of the threads of the alloy head bolts on the DA (snapping when running). These are/were problem areas on the respective engines.

Both engines were bought Privately in the U.K.

The spark plug hole does seem to be a different fit than other motors I've seen. Never understood why, but they thread tightly, and seal, so I figured it has been "good to go".
