on prop size to make the plane look scale ,,,,,,,,what model airplane has a prop that is to scale ?

None, but some come closer than others. I just think 11" would be too small to look good... but please post pics and prove me wrong!

Thanks for the great info!
Are you flying this Beaver on wheels or on floats?
Please post some photos!

I put tundra tires on it . I would love to post some pics, but I'm a high tech reject ! Yep, I dont know how to put pics on the internet.
I don't mess with computers much , I love rebuilding full size airplanes and building models (kits), so thats where I spend my time. One of these days I gotta figure it out !

I finally got this Beaver. It looks like I'm going to have to move the firewall back at least an inch, maybe 1 1/2" to get the thrust washer where it needs to be. Defedorko, I would love to hear how you got your .40 in. Did you cut a big hole in the firewall, and build a new one behind it? I've never attempted this much modification to one of these, and I'm a little nervous.

I was just checking out that Beaver in the catalog they sent me. It looks great. Going to follow this thread. I'd like to put a four stroke and floats on mine, too. Lots of us watching. Keep on posting.

Well, I AM going forward with this conversion. I decided against using the Saito .45 MKII that I have, due to it's size. I bought a new Saito .40a, which is built in a .30 size case, and is MUCH smaller. i custom made some aluminum motor mounts yesterday so that I can get it as close to the firewall as possible. The throttle linkage should be interesting, but the firewall will probably only be moving back 1/2" now. I've never done something like this before, but what I'm thinking is I'll cut most of the original firewall out, leaving a perimeter of 1/2" to 3/4", and epoxy a 1/4" spacer behind this "ring" and attach the new firewall behind that. that should give me the depth I need, and retain the down and right thrust of the original firewall. How does that sound? I cut up some hardwood stock so I can tie the new firewall into sides of the fuse and it's not just hanging on the original. I will be documenting everything, with pictures and measurements. I already weighed the fuse and it's 15.1 oz without the bottom hatch. we'll see where it ends up after the new firewall.

Sounds good to me rexracer! I am interested in that new 40. I also have a 45 Mk II and to hear the new 40 is in a 30 case is pretty startling. That makes for a real small powerhouse of an engine, eh?

Take a look near the bottom of this page http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3306814/mpage_433/tm.htm
You can see what kind of numbers I got after break in, and just how small this thing is in the pics. From the back of the carb where the mounting bolt is to the face of the prop hub is only 3"

I'm getting tired of seeing all of these great looking electric planes without a glow
power option. I've seen that beaver, and I think it would great with a small
4-stroke in it.

In the middle of conversion with Saito 40.No probs with firewall at all.Using a couple of spacers on cowl to bring it out just enough for clearance
Cut of box, inverted engine and throttle will connect to micro servo mounted on battery tray.No need to move firewall.

Like most things I do in the machine shop, my plans consisted of a rough sketch on graph paper, some notes, and a rough idea in my head. It took me longer to get the pillow blocks and Thomson rod not to bind than it did to make the whole thing. I have 2 pinch bolts on each end of the bars that hold the rod to the moving plate that holds the engine mount. I ended up only using one bolt on each end because if I used 2, it would slightly bend the bar, and bind. If I had to do it again, I would either bolt the bars to the plate, then bore the holes, or make it out of one piece. It does look cool, though! and works well, even if the "thrust" measuring aspect is a bit of a gimmik.

I would love to see a picture of your engine mounting and throttle setup. I already cut out the firewall on mine and I'll be mounting the new one back about 1/2" from the old. I did weigh the fuse before cutting, so I can tell how much weight I added. The engine and muffler only weigh 10.7 oz. and I'll probably be able to use a 6 oz. fuel tank.
