I would like some help/advice from someone who knows E power. I have a Saito .45 that I've been trying to find a plane for, and I've always wanted a Beaver on floats. I saw this Eflight Beaver, and it looks perfect for the .45, but since I am clueless on how much oomph the recomended power system for floats has, and how much weight the motor and batteries are, it's a little hard to figure whether the Saito will perform well. I looked at the manual online, and exept for the firewall, the plane looks like it should be plenty strong for the Saito.
My question to those in the know...Will this be a good match? I weighed the complete power system I would use (engine, prop, lines, tank and fuel) and it comes in at about 24 oz. total, 6 oz less without fuel. The Saito will turn a 12x5 MA 2 blade at 9700 rpm ready to fly on 15%. An 11x6 will probably turn about the same rpm.

rexracer: I cannot answer your questions about the comparison to e-power. But I can tell you from experience the Saito 45 will fly a Goldberg Anniversary Piper Cub and a Sig Rascal Forty.

I have seen the new E-Flite Beaver in person, and the Saito 45 will be more than enough power.

Looks like I'm going to be doing an E to glow conversion

What were your impressions upon seeing the Beaver in person? It looks great in the photos on E-Flite's site.

Keep us posted if you do indeed do this conversion. I would be interested in doing the same.
Thanks.

It looks better in person than in the online photos. It is very scale looking to me. It has the correct corrugated surfaces, awesome dummy radial engine, etc.

I just got a reply to an e-mail I sent to horizon/e-flight about whether a Saito .45 would fly this plane on floats, and they said they don't recomend using glow on any of their E planes, due to them being built lighter and not having to deal with the vibration of glow engines.
Kmot, you've seen this thing in person.Any opinion on it being built too light for a glow engine? I know I'll have to reinforce some areas, the firewall especially, but I was hoping the bulk of the airframe would work as-is. Opinions, anyone? In particular, I didn't want to have to mess with the wing or do anything that involves removing covering.

You got probably the stock factory response cuz they don't want return demands or money back for smashed products.

If you search around you will discover lots of people have installed glow engines in "electric only" airplane models. Usually all they do is fuel proof the firewall area and reinforce it a bit.

People have made glow models out of Guillow kits! You can't get any more flimsy than that!

That's about what I figured. I was hopeing to get a little more usefull info than "we don't recomend that", like maybe area's to look out for. I'm still going to get the plane, and I'll take a look when it arrives, and go from there. Heck, as an electric it would need to stand up to vibration if the prop was even a little out of balance, and these little Saito 45's are pretty smooth from what I've seen so far. My LHS is getting some, so I'll probably get the plane there.

It is surpisingly a big airplane weighing over 4 pounds with a nice sized wing. You should do OK with this one.

rexracer: You can always mount the Saito on a vibration absorbing motor mount.

With the Sullivan mount, you bolt your beam mount to the Sullivan mount. Then you bolt your engine to the beam mount:
