Well Guys I flew her last week, and it was good.

35 ounce tank 25 minutes in the air and 1/3 of a tank left over.

It is a real honest plane. I found it different to fly because I had to keep the speed up in the corners.
If I sluffed to much speed she was not happy and it took a little while to regain momentem.
Not at all like a sports plane, even with the G-62 in her.

Smooth and easy is what she liked. It took full power to do a decent loop.
Other wise it would fall out at the top.
I didn't try flying upside down or a barrel roll or even play with the flaps.
I just took her up got her trimmed out did a fly bys and goes and got use to her.

I was so nerves at first when I went to adjust for more up elevator I adjusted the throttle instead.
So I kept doing fly bys until I got the idle down enough so I could land the stupid thing.

The landing was a little hard because my air speed was still a little high. I had killed the engine to land.
I was getting close to running out of run way so just flew it onto the ground.
A slight bounce and ran it all the way to the end of the run way and made a sharp turn onto the grass.

Next time I'll play with the flaps and see if that will slow it down a little. A proper idle will help to.

All in all she is a great plane. Fun to fly... No ... exciting to fly. Plus people like to watch her fly.
Even when she is out there a ways she still looks big. Orentation is not a problem with this plane.

Another flight or two and I'll put the cowl on her.
The G-62 set for a while and the rings are breaking in again so the Carb. needs re-adjustments every so often.
The compression is getting better and so is the idle

Perhaps next time I'll have some video to post.

Well I have 5 flights on her now and everything is good.

I took off the G-62 and put on a conversion engine.
The G-62 shook the plane pretty good at idle.

It now has a 62cc Echo twin, out of a 1970s chainsaw in her.
I haven't taken her to the field and flown her but it looks darn good.

The twin runs so much smoother than the G-62 it's amazing.
And as you can tell the idle is slooow.

It looks like tomorrow will be another fly day for me and Mr. Mulligan.

Ralf where did you find the Echo 63cc twin? I would be very interested in putting one in my Mulligan.

Well I have about 5 flights on her now.
I couldn't be happier. She looks awsome in the air
and in a way flys like a sports plane. You just have to do everything real smooth
and be careful not to shead to much air speed.

Flaps work well with no balloning.
I did have her a little nose heavy but have the ballance right at 1/3rd the chord.

I love to hear the engine run, smooth and slow.
( see video link above )

Well here are some finished pictures.

It's been a real challenge for me.
A lot of changes and up grades.
I took almost 6 months to decide on how to finnish the wing supports.
I took the covering off both wings twice doing upgrades.
The last time I put 2- 48" 1/2" carbon fiber rods in the wing and through the Fuse.
That really made a difference in wing stiffness.
With out it I would not feel safe doing loops let alone hammerheads.

I know this is a lot of work and it is hard to finnish.
After all I built another kit in the middle of finnishing this one plus a half dozen ARFs,

But the end product is so well worth the extra push.
There are 3 guys I'm suppose to call every time I fly her and a half dozen keep asking when I'm bringing
her back out to the field.
She is that impressive. After all she is my new Best Girl.

Good luck Guys and Happy Landings

Looks great Ralph! The only thing I'd add if it were mine would be wheel pants, N-numbers and a dummy radial engine up front.

Happy landings,
Paul

I have the wheel pants for it.
They are painted and ready to go.

My experence with wheel pants is they do not work well on grass.
When I'm a little more comfortable with the landing I'll probally put them on.

Looks great Ralph!! I love the engine conversion, it fits in at huge cowl perfectly.

You are inspiring me to pull mine down from the rafters and finish it. I just finished my 1/3rd scale Sopwith Triplane (scratch build) so this fall would be the perfect time to finish the Mulligan. A buddy told me today that he picked up a Bud Nosen Mulligan kit at an estate auction last weekend...20.00!!!! with a fiberglass cowl!
