Well mine is gone. I experienced my first ever radio hit. It first happened when about center of the runway. I circled around for landing and it locked up all servos to full deflection and down she came hard. In 25 years of operating r/c I never experienced this. I am trying to understand the "why" now. It is the first time I ever wrapped my antenna on a bobbin. I also wrapped the bobbin in foam rubber as I do the rx's. I believe this had something to do with it. Is it a no no to wrap them on the bobbin with foam?

Foam is transparent to RF, so it makes no difference.

However.. I would take a look at the bobbin technique. Was there some methodology to it? Also, is there any possibility you fatigued and broke the conductor inside the antenna wire when you wound it? Just a couple of ideas out of a possible several hundred I bet.

I just realized what I did. I used my crashed (more than once) rx I usually use for shop testing only. I cannot believe I stuck it in there. I should have marked it up with marker or something. What a doosie. It range checked fine too! It has seen better days I guess. I am sending it to castle to see if they can fix it. Might be worth it...who knows.

I was just going to say, these tiny RXs aren't built very strong. They will develope cracks in the solder traces, especially where the plug ins are at.

Your exactly right. This one has a few now that I am looking at it. I may just toss this one. I have so many that are the same it's hard to keep them all straight. I am definatley making some tags for them. Simple enough. When one goes bad I will tag and stick aside for future meddling.

Yeah, don't tempt fate with a dodgy receiver. Add high frequency vibration and tossing the aircraft around during flight and you never know when one of those traces that passes the range check will decide to open up again with disastrous results.

Sorry to hear about the demise of your Stinger. At least you didn't fly it into the runway like some folks... .

Mine was still kicking after impact. That 4-channel AM receiver was laying on the runway, peeled from its foam roll, still attached to the mangled fuselage a few feet from the impact crater, continuing to issue commands like the Borg queen...still had elevator control, flopping away on the runway.

Forgot to add...my Stinger is about ready to fly again. It doesn't look much like a Stinger anymore. I mounted the mighty .10 on its side, the way I like 'em, and gave her a radial cowl...made out of a large One-a-Day vitamin jar. She's ugly alright, but the little JB Welded motor is tuned up and ready to roll. 13,100 static, 3800 idle, with an 8x3 MAS prop.

Nice to hear you got her ready again no matter how ugly. I am tossing mine in the box of doom and already have another one coming....a few more rx's too.

Maybe this time things will go better. The motor is so packed with dirt it's not funny. I am taking it apart tonight for a thorough cleaning.

Not as bad as I pictured. Mine would need several hours of building to repair. All that was left in one piece was the tail and about 4 inches fore of that. Wing is in a few pieces as well. Want it?

That's the good angle. From the side it looks like Daffy Duck.

I need to get my dead butt out of this chair and go start on the Little Extra.

I am with ya. Watching the Wing game and need to be building. Now it's in overtime. GO WINGS!

I plan to build the next little extra with the 15cv.

So far it looks good. I did not start it yet though. I did get it cleaned up and looking like new. I have to order the backplate that cracked off where the needle attaches. Thats the only visible damage so far. Time will tell.
