Hi all. How does one remove the black cylinder on a Wenmac? There are no wrench flats. Is it a permanent press fit?

Thanks,
David

David, Dont know the tool used but what will work is to drill a hole the same size as the lower section of the cylinder through a peice of wood , then saw the wood through the hole lengthways-split it, then use this as a clamp in a vice to remove -replace the cylinder.

Thanks, Stew, after heating the engine in the over, your "wrench" worked!

Anybody got any more tips for the disassembly and reassembly of this type Wen-Mac? I just acquired one as a kick-in to sweeten a trade and have no clue about them except for starting a couple other types in RTF C/L planes and cars owned by other kids on the street when I was a kid.

I'm thinking this could be a "project" engine for my nine year old son. Take apart, examine; clean; reassemble; and, hopefully, run.

Anything you can tell me that might help would be greatly appreciated.

As a small improvement to the "wrench" make that second part of the slot a little longer and end it wiht another hole the same size as the cylinder hole. It makes the wood both more resistant to splitting and more flexible to squeeze with less pressure.

A lot of people, including myself, life to use the inner portion of a bike tube. Wrap it around the cylinder a few times, and it gives you great leverage to remove the stuck part. I read this a while ago, and find it to work quite well.

A strap wrench may work, or a homemade smaller version. I know a pipe wrench will work, if you don't mind some marks.
