I just got it last Friday. I have been waiting for months and luckly Paul found one form me in a warehouse somewhere. It's great and I can't believe the detail of the model. I have been working a little every night, but still don't know how much detail I want to do with it. I think I am just going to add some weathering on the panel lines and cowl. It's a very nice kit and it's going to be an electric conversion. I am going to put an E-Flight Power 110 with and 8S 5000 mah pack in it. That will give me about 1600 watts or about 2.5 HP. Should be plenty of power for that plane. Only bad thing is I can't go with a full cockpit unless I move the servo tray. That's fine because it's too much work anyway. It's going to take me a while to build and detail.

i have a question- when I look at the way the front of this plane blends to the spinner it doesn't look right to me. the full scale mustangs I have seen do not taper to the spinner like this model does. it looks to me like they used a spinner that is too small and made the cowl taper to fit the spinner....
or is there a version of the full scale mustang that was made this way? if you go to www.mustangsmustangs.com you can view many pics of full scale mustangs, including b models, and none of them are made like this plane.

I think it's just the angle of the photo and lighting because the spinner fits perfectly. It looks just like the real thing or as close as you can get for an off-the-shelf spinner. Here's another photo that shows it better.

You could do it, but surgery beyond what i have time for would be required...I don't think it would be that tough to do. If I were to glass the fuse I'd do it, but I'd only do that if the wings were sheeted, which they aren't. So I'm not doing it. The sm. robart mech or air would fit nicely.

Hi Jeff,
I have to agree with Ed on this one. Your last photo actually tends to support his point about excessive taper being evident on the cowl to match a "too small" diameter spinner. Especially if you look closely at the intersection of the cowl and the spinner where the lower prop blade is seen in your photo.
The full scale Mustang, as well as my 60- and 150- size H9's P-51's, show a smooth, continuous parabolic arc transitioning from the spinner to the leading edge of the cowl (see pics below: red spinner = H9 60; yellow = H9 150). Granted, H9 has made numerous other compromises on these "sport-scale" warbirds, but they definitely got the "spinner-to-cowl" transition right!
OK, the shrewd ones out there may point out that neither of my 'Stangs is shown with a factory-provided spinner. True, they are both Dave Brown spinners. The H9 60 didn't come with one (kudos to SIG) and the one provided with the 150-size is too flimsy to be anything but static only. That being said, the DESIGN of the cowls on both of these H9's tracks almost perfectly with a continuing parabolic curve from either the 3", or 5" aftermarket parabolic spinners, respectively.
Don't get me wrong: I still think this is an excellent ARF, and H9 had better be paying attention to SIG and TF for lots of other reasons, only one of which is factory-provided flaps on a 60-size 'Stang, but, frankly, this is a rather noticeable, and disappointing, flaw...

OK Sean, im getting back into action for this spring so as soon as i get moved back across the river ill finish "Chautuaqua" and we can do a formation fly by. P-51b and a P-47N! Should be worth a great picture. Im ready for that drink!!!!!! Im better and Doing good. You will have to meet her!

I'm going to try it myself in a few days..have the old and new style units......this week end will glue the wings together..since I live in the midwest,it'll be a couple of months before I can get out and fly..have installed air retracts and will take pictures of the retracts (Main) after I glue the wings together.....looks pretty good from here..................enjoy

On another note of good news, power was restored to my neighborhood this morning at about 8:15 AM ...So I'll be able to do some work on the engine mounting for this P-51B, hopefully ASAP.

jmohn, I think you're plane looks great! I can't wait for the video. The spinner looks pretty darm good to me, and considering it's stock...you can't beat it.

I am considering glassing this bird. I was wondering about the pre-hinged flaps. Are they already glued in? If so, do you think I can get them out without thrashing the bird? It won't take me too long to glass but the flaps are my only concern and will be the deciding factor on whether I glass or not.

The wing is not sheeted in the middle of the wing on both top and bottom,prett much down the whole length of the wing I think. From what I have seen, you have to look pretty hard to tell if it's sheeted or not. I am planning on sheeting mine so I can glass it. I just want to know if the flaps are easy to remove. I didn't check on mine when I saw it at the shop. I pick it up on monday.

Yes got them yesterday..instructions are exellent...will work on them when I get the P-51B done..going to glue the wings together this, week end...have the retracts in and set up..will take pictures also..My ME-109 has got the flaps all set up,( one facing one way and the other facing the other way)so will try to copy the model set ups to the P-51...Have to get SPCM rec'r for the P-51..don't think you can copy PPM to SPCM, or vice-verse..Had a stroke of bad luck, but good luck in a big way..My rec'r in my C-130, just when bananas....no signal...No not my transmitter, it's ok..the rec'r controls in the plane were jumping all around,and then it finally quit...dead as a door nail...batteries are OK....Good part is it happen on the bench,and not in the air...nuff said
Again thanx for the flaps and info..will keep you posted when I start working on them...........
