Gpete...thanks for the tip.
I originally wanted to use them, but the local hobbyshop didn't carry anything that big, so i chose the nylon biolts thinking that would dampen some vibration.
Who carries the hardwood stock ?
Home Depot ?

Don's Hobby Shop has some very nice aluminum stand-offs that would do nicely if it's not too late.

Noflaps,

Get any flights in yet? I keep having balance problems with my spinner. I just ordered a Dave Brown spinner that should solve the problem.

Jmohn,
Actually, I haven't...
The plane should have by all accounts been finished a-long time ago, but I suppose this is the point that I admit I have OCD issues when it come to the little things and the fact that I got the invasion stripes wrong has been drining me crazy, so last night I pulled them off , taking the star and bar with them .
I tell you what: that industrial vinyl I used does not wnt to come off!
Needless to say, the stars and bars didn't make it, so I'm going to order some Major decalss, or create my own to replace the two that lost the battle last night..
with the exception to that, I've done everything else except for putting the gear doors on. the plane is flight ready except for needing to either TAP out the factory FPE prop bolt, so that it can accept the spinner or getting a new bolt and then prop nut adapter.
I guess I had better really inspect the balance of the spinner while I'm at it.

BTW -The rear radiator door is cool to see operate and it's a neat visible indicator of where the carb position is prior to starting.

I am anxiously waiting for a flight report for the gas engine. I am in the process of converting my fleet to gas. This plane could have G20 written all over it.

I need to do the radiator thing on mine as it's starting to get warm around here now. My batteries a slightly warm and will definatly get over heated on those hot summer days. Get that plane in the air man!

Well, the Kentucky weather is doing it;'s usual thing this time of year which is sunny, then snowing, maybe 50 degrees by the weekend.
I should have her ready to rock by then.

I got three flights in at lunch time today Sorry, just had to let you know

BTW: my 16-10 prop just barely clears the ground when the tail comes up, so make sure you have some up elevator on your roll-out.

Thanks for the tip!
=)
P.S. Rub it in that you were able to fly 3 x at lunch.

Yeah L.A. has decent weather, but too many people and the air sucks Beaches are nice though! San Jose is much better and the weather is pretty good here too.

In the process of striping the stripes off, I decided to take some pics of the finished Rear cooling door and servo set-up.
Originally, the throttle was on the opposite arm, but I flipped the carb on the engine so that the area req'd for cowl cutting was lessened, so now the radiator cooling door and throttle are on the same arm.
Please pay no attention to the remaining stripes.
Also, I have a short video of this door in action, but i'm not savvy enough to know how to load it to RCU.

Sean,

You can upload the video to Utubes and just link it to this thread. It's very easy. Working on my KMP Stuka right now trying to get it detailed out nicely. It's all ready to fly, but I haven't made it pretty yet. It's suposed to be a G model, but I made mine a D by adding a rear machine gun and other little things. Should be ready for our Warbird fly in May.

Okay...I did it~
i've upladed the video or the rear door in action.
It's not too exciting, so don't get all worked up.
It is however, pretty neat.

That's going to look very cool when you do low passes with the flaps down! I will do mine the next time it's in the hanger due to bad weather So far it looks like good flying weather until late next week. Oh well, I guess I will just have to fly it then.

Is there anyone else that has this plane finished and maidened besides Jmohn? I also own this bird but I am planning to glass it and paint it but not sure what scheme I want to do. Probably the OLD Crow. I like the all Olive Drab colored birds. Anyone have any other favorite schemes in the P-51B? I don't plan on doing a build thread since it has taken me almost 2 years to glass and assemble my H9 Corsair. A baby and 2 houses later, I'm finally getting close to finishing the Corsair. I can't wait to dig into this plane!
