You need to move out west It's been sunny and 65 degrees out here. Hope you get some good flying weather soon.

I have been flying 3/4 days per week. I must have close to 60 flights on my P51B by now. Now that my spinner is smooth I have been flying much faster and need to add some cooling for the battery and ESC. I had one overheat today and had to make an emergency landing. No problem since this plane lands easy with the flaps. I felt the power start to drop and stayed high until I figured out what was going on and then set her down. I would guess I am going about 75-80 mph with my setup right now, maybe fast in a dive.

Too much fun!!!!!

Jeff

Well I have been flying my electric P51B lots and have a ton of flights on it now. I have been really pushing the motor hard and pusing around 1400 watts through the motor. Didn't think it would hurt the motor...wrong. I had a dead stick today and landed it without incident. I thought the battery just ran out of juice, but it was the motor. I guess a 16-12 is too big : ) Next time I will run a 16-10.

FINALLY Maidened today. !!!
Had several problems (self-induced) on Fridays' proposed test flight, wheels / struts were'nt aligned and tail wheel wasn't working properly, so tests were cancelled.

Flight today was without struts, I used the factory gear that came with the air retracts, CG was a lil tricky as the the engine weights quite a bit and battery and all had to be moved all the way to the rear.
a radio glitch ocurred immediately after I retracted the gear, so I put them back down, turned her around and was trimming it out as i made the down-wind leg, set up with 1/2 flaps and settled her in nicely for a landing.

tailwheel is still a problem,, so i'll deal with that and the servo problem before the next flight (hopefully this week).
The FPE flew the plane very nicely with a 16x8 prop, but i'd like to see it with a 16x10 or 15x10.
Pics will be posted tomorrow.

Glad to See NoFlaps, saying yes to flaps!

Actually...truth being told noflaps has an affinity for flaps and I generally add them to an ARF if it doesn't come with them, but I thought it would be a fun name to use since I have been know to come in hot at times.
Here are the pics of the P-51B

P.S. Great work SIG !!!
Overall, I'd highly recommend this ARF to a modeller with intermediate building & flying experience, as it is not only wll constructed, but flies incredibly well, this is a plane that requires prior flying experience as it's a warbird and behaves like one (when I had my radio glitch, I was able to experience and unintended stall right after TO, without prior warbird experience it could have been disasterous).
that being said, she was otherwise a real pleasure to fly, and looked stunning in the air.
Not to mention that she is a more than welcome change to all those D model mustangs out there.
PROS:
construction
quality
completeness of instructions including history and pics
hardware incl;uding scale spinner
Good size (.60-.90)
Great looks of the lesser seen B model
Stable platform & flight

CONS
plastic wing fillets
plastic tail fillet
Glossy covering material

Personal note: Cost for this plane is reasonable given all the great attributes of this ARF, I only wish it were about $50.00-$60.00 less

It's about time I already burned up one motor flying mine so much. Put a new motor in last weekend and will be back in the air tomorrow. Yours looks great! I am thinking about getting another one and doing a aluminum finished in the "Blue ****s" theme.

Noflaps --
What a great job you've done with this. I just wish it was a little bigger -- the 72" w/s range would make it just about perfect for my taste.
Have fun with yours.
Al

Thabnks guys!
I'm very pleased with the way she looks...i still need to add the machine guns, but otherwise it's very much to my taste now.
jmohn, yes, silver would look great...I hope you do it.
=)
I'm going to have to rethink the way i've done the tailwheel as it doesn't work as is...it won't lock the threads no matter how much thread-lock, glue or JBweld I use.
I can't wait to fly her again!

What changes did you make on the tail wheel? Mine works fine. The only changes I have made on mine, other that it's electric, is using a Dave Brown spinner.

I used a Dubro "semi-scale wheel" assembly, then modified it to prevent the belly from scaping the ground.

I didn't know you did that...cool! I just picked up a Hyperion Ki84 (40 size) and am almost ready to maiden it now. Still love the P51B and can't wait to do another theme. I was thinking I would just wait until I had an "incident" with my current one, then recover it, but it flies too well

Is his electric? I would assume so since it's setup for electric. They really did a great job on the fuze of that plane. It's very detailed and has a great battery hatch too. Cant' wait for a flight!
