3D Foamy Group:

I am upgrading from small 3D EPP planes into larger depron models and wanted some recommendations.

I learned the basic maneuvers on the EPP planes, but want better performance characteristics while maintaining durability for the inevitable "hard landings". I plan on purchasing the Hacker A20-20L, as recommended by 3D Foamy, but what plane would suit this motor and my beginner skills the best?

In addition, I have never flown a plane with independent servos for each aileron, the EPP planes only use one. Can you guys direct me towards some literature that might explain the mixing procedure and necessary equipment to accomplish this set-up?

I have a 4-Channel transmitter (Hitec Flash 4), but do I need a 6-channel receiver to mix the two servos? Sorry for the beginner questions.

Thanks for the additional help.

Hi, Id recommend any of the pro planes to you, that motor will give awesome vertical and great perfermance. The edge and sukhoi are very popular, yet all fly great. For ailerons, you can use a 4 channel to fly any of my planes, just use a Y harness on the ailerons, the manual will show how to assemble the aircraft.
Thanks
J

John:

Thanks for the advice! I can't decide between the Edge 540 or the Katana S...

What are some of the key differences between the models in flight? Thanks again.

well, I think the edge is more of a 3D bird, yet they will all do it. It comes down to what you think looks better

Well, here is what I have so far...

3D Foamy
- Plane: 3D Foamy –Pro Katana S Kit
- Motor: Hacker A20-20L Outrunner
- Propeller: APC 11x4.7
- Battery: ThunderPower 3S 1320 mAh 15C
- Speed Control: Castle Creations ThunderBird 36A BESC
- Receiver: Castle Creations Berg 4L Receiver
- Servo: Hitec HS – 55
- Gear: 3D Foamy - Carbon Gear Set

Do you think the ‘C’ rating on the battery is sufficient? I know your motor chart shows the A20-20L with a 11x4.7 drawing 17 amps and this battery is barely keeping up. The 20C packs however will not provide a lot flying time.

Also, do you plan on stocking more CF landing gear sets?

Thanks again.

FWIW I was using 1200mah packs with my 20L, but you have to keep that throttle stick in mind, youll cook them (Ive had them hot) but it works. Gear, not sure, at this point no, but ya never know.

Thanks
