I'm trying to find a site that has concise definitions of the various pylon categories. Q-500, Q-40??? Does electric have it's own category designation?

Other than FAI F5D, there is not very much organized electric racing currently going on in the U.S.

At this point, we do not have a forum for electric racing, those questions / answers would be found in the General Pylon Racing Sub-Forum this post is in.

At the moment we have two q-500 classes 424, 428.
424 is the starter class you have to use a spec engine and have to use a foam core wing, speeds are 110-130mph range.
428 is the "Open" class composite wings and some fuse's are the norm. Nelson, Profi and Jett engines are made just for this class of racing 170-190mph. the Q-500 is close to an "Ugly Stick" design, most use a v-tail.

Q-40, or 422 are full aircraft, the look tike Mustangs, and other "Reno" style racers. Again engine are built for the class, 200+mph. These planes are a 10+ on the "Cool factor", and when 3 or 4 of them come around pylon 1 and unload, its pure music.

I understand you question of classes, I didn't know them either until after I was told I was racing the 428s.

Laggard,

I see you are listed as a Minnesotan. If you are interested in Racing RC Planes, you are in a pretty good place, but no electrics are raised in the Twin Cities that I am aware of. I'd join in, if there was.

Lots of info on our racing in Brooklyn Park at www.ncplracing.org
