Guys I am looking for a little help if it's at all possible.

I am trying to draw some nose art for a friends model of Little Buckaroo which was on the nose of a P38 flown by Major Robert C "Buck" Rogers so I understand.

I have some images but they are a little grainy and I would really appreciate it if someone had a good resolution image that I could have to do the job the justice it deserves.

Nice to see the elusive scotsman has got you on the case.

Have looked for some better pics on the internet but so far have come up short - there may be better pictures in books such as the "The Dynamite Gang" (the history of the 367th FG) but unfortunately don't have access to a copy to have a look.

I would have thought the best bet would be for Graham to purchase some 1:48 scale transfers from Hannants and then to scan them at high res.

They are available for Little Buckaroo at http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=TY48037

If you see this Graham please can you call me.

Best regards

Jason

Hi there Jason. He has indeed roped me in "as it were". I had not considered the decal aftermarket as a source as my focus has been on original pictures. I will see where you book reference gets me .

I am going to be drawing up a catalogue of nose art over the coming years for modellers with any look.

Just finished Annie-Mo for his Corsair

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the info,I owe you one again,I will get them on order, have you made up your mind on what ME you are going to do???

Hi Nigel, gret job on the miss Anni Mo,I will also order the smaller decals for her as well as it shows you all the other small badges and kill markings.

If It's ok with you can I put the refurb or restoration of of the Ziroli p38 on here,it would be a good way of showing your fine handy work with the decals/paint mask's and I can show off the nice shiny new Chrome finish

Cheers Graham.

Hi Nigel,
Here we go then with the refurb and the transformation into Littel Buckaroo.

Well I was very lucky when I managed to pick up this Ziroli P38 on Ebay at a very good price, she came all ready to go with a pair of Zenoha 38's.
Personally I do not think she was ever flown as both engines were spotless and no sign of oil stains.
I was going to fly here as she was but anyone that nose me ,I could not resist the Chrome paint calling me she was just crying out for it ,as the paint work she came with was not up to my sad addiction for shine

Here are the first batch of pics in her origonal greeny colour.

Cheers Graham

Hi All,

So first thing to do was to get all the greeny type paint off her,so it was down to the Warbird Factory and with the use of Daves DA sander the paint slowly came off.
The P38 had been glassed but with only one coat of resin so the weave had to be filled, I will be using the Lsonal Platnum Chrome paint on her so the surface has to be spotless as any little imperfection will show up.

Here are some more pics with some of here sanded back and some firscoats of High build primer.

Cheers Graham.

Hello All -

I'm currently having a Ziroli P-38 built and am planning to use the "Little Buckaroo" markings. I'm having the graphics custom made. The plane is for scale competition so the graphics are taking a little time to complete, but will be as accurate as possible when done. I'll post on here when I get the final set. I'll also post the graphics person and his telephone number.

Take Care,

Brian

Hi Graham!

I diddent know you was doing a thread on your P38? looks like you been working hard, i know the paintwork was a bit ropey when you got it, but im sure with a bit of work and a few coats of primer it will look great!

After we spoke about alluminium wheels the other nite i had a look on the net and had a look at the wheels that Roy Vallencourt (Valley Aviation) sells, he uses Du-bro tyres and makes his own wheels, errr... there not dear either!!

Keep up the good work m8!!
Di n Dave....

Hi Brian,

So you have opted for Little Buckaroo as well,I think it's a good choice as allot of the other schemes have been done time and time again.
Mr Jolly " Nigel" is a bit opf a perfectionist when it come's to detail so our decals will be worth the wait too.
Brian if you have any good pics of the art work that would be a great help, allong with some pics of your build.

Hi Dave, yes still sanding and forming.I'm about to start the wing fillets now, once they are done I can get the panel lines down then start that lovely job of riveting.
Yes your high build stuff is good, but the weave is still coming through ever so slightly,so yes another quick blast and she should be good to go.

Here are some pics of the main wing fairing, this was already on the plane but not big enough, and not sharp enough on the edge.
I used two layers of chart tape arround the edge's to give the wing fairing a nice sharp step.

Cheers Graham

Hi All,

Here is a quick update on the P38.

I have had to re- shape the Turbo charger housing as It was not finished off very well and very square looking.
I have also started to lay the panel lines down with grid tape, once down I will go over with some high build primer.

The best refrence I have found for the P38 is the Aero Detail book, this is a must, some great close up's of the aircraft, especialy the turbo charger,it also contains some good detailed drawings and all the rivet placments which I need.

Cheers Graham.

Hi All,

Here are some pics of the rivets getting burnt on with the soldering iron & brass tube,I never new ther were so many rivets and fastners on the P38's wings
I have also started to add some extra detail arround the turbo charger, the little vents are made out of litho plate, just by adding these it seems to be coming to life,I will add the main turbo chrger after painting and once I have detailed that a bit more,I have only put it in for the pic.

Cheers Graham.

Hi Graham. Tis coming along, but I am fighting the application process at the moment.

I have some new supplies on the way from the US so I can resume testing.

I also need some colours from Baron Paints, but I might have to tap you up for some epoxy Silver and Clear if I don't get any success.

I'll drop a picture in when it's finished!

Nigel

Graham. Whatever you are spraying the P38 with will be fine, it does appear there can be issues with some paints for the decals as I have found out.

I only need 10ml for the tests!

Nigel

Hi all,

Some more pics ,these are of the shell ejection ports,I think these add a good bit of depth to the overal look of the nose section.

Cheers Dave,It sure will be good once you get your Tigercat done,we have got to get them both up in the air together.

Cheers Graham.

Hi Graham,

Good to see ya today! you are right about the shell ports, they start to make it look 'real' all this detailing 'makes' a model, well done mate, makes the late nights up to 3am rivetting all worth it!!

The Tigercat wont be back till around June time, im still waiting for parts, hope to have it all by the time it comes back, it wont be out this year but should be good to go next year, would be great to get them up together, makes a change to all the single engined planes around, still not sure what engines to go for yet? i was going to go for Zenoah g38's but ive been told they may be to big to fit, so may go for the Zenoah g26?

Keep up the good work,
Di n Dave....

Graham. Annie-Mo is about as good as I am going to get her. It's frustrating working in paint and decal to mix the white. I am going to have to look at something to develop this process further. Having said that what we have is not too bad.

The silver has not arrived yet. There is no rush if you haven’t sent it yet as I have a bit of a workload
