I just 'de grease' the spinner and back plate ,reassemble the two and paint. In my case I painted a Dave Grown Aluminum Vortec and experienced no problems with paint adhesion.

Ed,

It is worth the extra effort! It's a good thing to work on when you can't fly too. I have some Robart struts on order and will put new wheels and paint them up nice when I make the changes. I will also be painting the spinner when I get me four blade one setup. Going to a 15-10 four blade prop & spinner.

I use Krylon both for plastic and regular. Works great. Butyrate dope also works. On aluminum use a gray primer coat first.

Just got back from flying field this afternoon and managed to put 4 flights of 7 to 9 minutes on my electric P-51. The combination of a United Hobbies HXT 63-54-A (250KV) and an 18/12 APC prop on 2 4/3850 Common Sense packs made a horse out of the Mustang. It is airborn by the time the throttle hits the stops. You might as well hit the gear switch as you move the throttle forward as it happens that quick. Climb outs while not vertical are dang near. The aircraft is a beautiful flying aircraft with excellent control harmony. It flies like a warbird should. Very smooth on the elevator and ailerons and rudder works right now when needed. Its as good as others have stated. A beautiful aircraft in the air on a photo pass or just busting the field. This one is a keeper and should be around for a long time. Have fun as I know I did.

Ed, glad you enjoy it too! It''s become my favorite plane to fly. I am so comfortable with it now I don''t care what the wind is like or where I fly it now.

I keep waiting for a bad landing or wing to get scraped up so I can recover it with silver and do a "Blue Nosed Ba$tards" theme, but I haven''t had any.

Great plane!

I can honestly see where this one could be habit forming. The takeoffs are so easy, just bring in the power, hold a little right rudder and it''s airborne. A long rolling takeoff is hard to do as she just wants to fly. I have not used the flaps yet at 20 percent for takeoff as everything has been clean, I need to do that next. This is really a good flying warbird and I would put it up against any of the "60 size fighters" as far as flyability and looks go. Just a nice smooth flying bird and the electric conversion made it better. I love the way it taxies by and the little whistle or flutter from the tips of the props as it does. A full bore run down the runway is so smooth too, likes she on a rail without any bouncing around at all. I normally mix a little rudder into the ailerons via the transmitter (15%) and it really helps in the overall performance of the bird. I just like it and honestly have never cared for the P-51 models as they always seemed a little loose in their flying from a little electric to a 1/4 scale they were never really comfortable to fly but this one works and I''m not the least bit worried about her letting go on me rolling downwind or rolling base to final at low speed. It just works. ed

Yeah it''s a keeper for sure. I have landed it with no wind and in a 15 mph wind and it''s fine either way. I had a strong head wind last week while flying it and used full flaps on landing and it did an almost 3-point landing and about a 6 foot roll out after touching down. I haven''t used the flaps on take off as it only used a few yards to get off the ground. It has also changed my mind about P51s as the last one I had almost always did prop strikes on take offs and landings no matter how well I controlled it. Got my big KMP Stuka to maiden now before our warbird fly next month. I sure hope it flys half as good as this P51!

Fort what its worth I run the Tang up this afternoon with the following results: 45 amps and 1300 watts indicated. These are what I found with an Eflite watt meter running on 8 cells pulling a 18/10 cut down from a 19/10 and rebalanced. The vehicle leaps into the air and runs every bit as good as a large 4 stroke engine. Flight times easily exceed 6 minutes with a healthy reserve for landing and a couple missed approaches. The wind is blowing like crazy here now so I hope maybe Friday or Saturday I'll get a little flying in and have someone with a camera available. Keep working the vehicle is worth having around. ed

Ed that's pretty close to what I am getting too. I get 1380 with 16-12 prop and a 6 minute flight. Plenty of power. I haven't flown in about a week here as the wind has been howling. Hope to get flights in tomorrow. Still waiting for my 3 & 4 blade props to arrive. Not sure how thos will perform.

Down and dirty for a full stop landing. A joy to handle both full bore or full flaps. Very honest aircraft. ed

Yeap, got to love the way Sig set this play up! I wonder if the big H9 P51D flys as well?

Great photo Ed!

Received a few more shots of the Mustang this afternoon. Military passes both ways on runway. Shooter was having trouble tracking vehicle due to it's speed but we got lucky. Thanks to Ronnie for the shots. ed
