I have always glued the stab and rudder on the Sky Raider Mach II's that I have put together. I usually mark around the fin and cut away the covering. And I remove the covering from the stab in the stab saddle area. Then I glue the whole stab and fin assembly together with the bolts inserted.

On most of my damaged planes, it has been a non-issue. But I did have one LA Racer 40 that would have been easier to fix if the stab had just been screwed in.

Is anyone not gluing the tail components in?

I don't.
However I do put a liberal amount of loctite on the screws. We were out flying the other day just goofing around and I was getting some sick snaps out of mine. Enough that I got a little worried about what I may be doing to my "racing plane". It hasn't been an issue for me yet, heaven knows I have flown the snot out of mine.

I haven't glued mine. The screws have stayed tight without Loctite. Also, I can remove the tail (and wing) so it will fit in our smaller car when I travel to races.

Vic
The next time we fly together I'll bring some Kleenex for you. Some to wipe the plane butt and some to wipe your forehead from sweat.

I always screw the tail in. easier to build, easier to fix and easier to make trim adjustments.

I have toyed with the idea of gluing, but never have. Used loctite on one. Wanted to remove it, but could not!!!

We had cases where the screws not only came loose, but fell out.

Now I just check the screws before each days flying and then put tape over the holes. Actually did not have one loosen all last year.

I have never glued the tail feathers, just used the screws provided. Now that I've gone through several Sky Raiders I have extra vertical and Horz. stabs and can make a quick change when damage occurs during a heat. I've had my tail feathers chewed on several times.

I have always glued the stab & fin in place -- old habits from many years of modeling. I've found the fin & stab alignment to be off enough so flight would be affected, and I need all the help I can get when I'm on the race course. I've also had a student with a screwed-on tail on his trainer that came off in flight and totaled his plane -- he checked and tightened the screws before the day's training session. Third flight of the day, and oops -- instant kit. Any SRM2 I've wrecked was bad enough that saving the tail would not have been a benefit - I would have lots of tails and no fuselages to put them on.
