It's somewhat pitch sensitive, due to it's very short tail.

This is by design so that the Pitts can do those awesome "tumble" manouevers that other planes cannot do.

If this is to be your first Biplane, consider something with a longer tail.

An Ultimate does not have an elongated tail like a Skybolt, but it would be better suited to be your first aerobatic biplane.

Even with it, there will be many new things you have to deal with.

A Skybolt tracks as if is on rails, but doesn't do many of the classic moves the Pitts and Ultimate can do.

Am I correct in that the Red is the originally the Kyosho pitts S2A?

Edit: I take it back. Most likely made from the same factory mostly same parts but Kyosho's tail feathers are different.

Would it not be so bad on low rates? I thought biplanes just have more drag than a normal aerobatic plane, especially coming in on landings when you can notice it.
But in other words was the point trying to come to me is that a ultimate would be a better biplane to start with?

The Pitts has a shorter tail, and hence it is less stable in pitch than the Ultimate or Skybolt.

Low rates do help, but I would not recommend this plane as a first BiPlane.

If you are new to Biplanes you have to contend with several minor differences over single wing tail draggers.

As you mentioned, they have higher drag, so they must land under power.
They tend to yaw more.
Due to the shorter wings they tend to roll a bit dependant upon throttle position.
They need longer takeoffs, no yanking the elevator back, least you lawn dart the plane.

The Pitts is designed to be highly aerobatic, and it has a short tail moment.

That's not to say you could not fly it... but if you are trying to decide which Biplane to get first, I'd advise you to start out with another aerobatic biplane. The Ultimate 40S is a bit easier to fly.

My hat is off to Nitro Models. They did a great job of packaging ,speedy delivery and there were no broken parts. I have begun assembly and I must say that I am tempted to order another just in case. I was wondering about the aileron servos though,in the event that I might over power a little, it started me thinking about striping out those small servos. If anyone has any ideas or has used larger ones I would like to know which ones and how they worked. Who knows maybe the 81's will do just fine but I would hate to find out the hard way. I also wanted to know how everyones model balanced out and if any weight had to be added or what. Thanks guys and again ,Great Job NITRO MODELS I would buy from you guys again in a minute

I used Futaba S3115's for my ailerons. I think they will be just fine but I still haven't flown mine yet so don't know for sure. I sure hope the weather around here improves soon.

linkadrip, I am wondering if you have had the chance to fly your plane yet? Mine is still sitting on a shelf waiting for the weather to improve.

Nope no Maiden yet Still have a few things to iron out with the Engine it beign new and not fully broken in yet Still have to make another hole in my Cowl to adjust the LSN and The tail wheel needs some work.
Today was the first nice day we have had here would have been a great day to maiden the plane. I just want to make sure it's right. my CG is a 3 inches from the leading edge of the top wing. SO i'm pretty certain i have to move the battery back behind the cockpit. Or add weight witch i really dont want to do.

But its still cold here And will be warming up and i'll get her out there. Going to work on some of them things tonight most likely. So maybe next weekend i will get a chance unless we have another freak Snow Storm like this past weekend. IF you get to maiden before i do will be happy to here how it went.

I probably wont be able to get out with mine for about another week. After that my calendar is clear, and I hope the weather will be too. The plane is all set to go.

I got so close to finally flying my plane today. Got to the field and got it all set up and ready to go, checked the controls and everything was set. Fueled it up and disaster strikes. The fuel tank had split just above the bung. I sealed the tank area well so not much of a problem with the fuel that leaked. So close, Saturday looks to be good so I'll have to try it again then.

Well I've been following this thread hoping to see a first flight report but due to bad weather for everyone else, i guess i'll go first....I purchased this model a couple weeks ago, and despite several problems, it went together alright. They sent me the decals and manual from the Ultimate 40. (So i now have a pitts with ultimate stickers on it! ) I powered mine with a Thunder Tiger Pro 46 with Jtec Pitts muffler. I'll try and post some pics later tonight if possible. It was rather cold and windy here today, but i had to fly it or crash it one. The pitts actually has nice ground handling for such a small coupled plane. Mine required nearly full right aileron and 4 clicks of down trim to get her straight and true. The tt 46 is a monster in such a small plane. Its an absolute rocket!!! I have near max throws on mine and it may be too much depending on your flying skill. KEEP THIS IN MIND as it will snap very hard!!! Flying wide open and pulling up putting the sticks in the corners will let it tumble very tight and fast, BUT it will spin several more times after the sticks are released. so be a few mistakes high on your first few flights. This plane's small size doesn't fare so great on really windy days either. But all in all, its a great flier!!!! Much better and more relaxed than I had expected...i used to have a Global tequila sunrise 25 that I was initially gonna compare it too, but theres no comparison!!! (Thank God!) You'll need to keep quiet a bit of speed on when you bring it in for a landing, as it will tip stall in a heartbeat!!! I have 4 successful flights on mine so far and bring it in around 1/4 throttle till its right over the runway and then bleed it the rest of the way off for a nice 3 point landing. No bounced landings so far.....So, for $85 on the closeout price, i got one heck of a deal on this beast!!! Its one nice lookin plane too........I hope the weather clears soon for you guys, cause your in for a treat on this one!!!

Oh ya, be easy on the elevator when you take off so it desnt try and snap on you....I hate to keep rambling but I also need to stress that you LOCKTITE the small bolts and nuts on the struts. After my last time up, I looked my plane over and had one bolt about to fall out......So be sure and keep an eye on them......take care guys!
