SFMMcoasters -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (2/10/2008 9:32:06 PM)

I'm going to be maidening my extra 260 today. I'll try to get video.

I hope the maiden goes better than your old Yak[;)] Take your time and set up some low rates. Video would be great! I would love to see this bird flying with a 4 stroke.

It didn't work out. We were playing with the engine settings for about 45 minutes, we couldnt get it to a comfortable idle. I decided to play it safe, get it fixed up and running at home, then fly next weekend. The engine is still young.

i just ordered an extra 260 just like yours. I am new to the hobby, and was wondering if you could give some advice? I am thinking an O.S. 61FX for an engine, but i have no clule how to figure out what i need for servos. i have a DX7 radio. do i have to get the same as what came with it?

You say you are new to the hobby? This is no beginners plane. You should be comfortable with a low or mid wing aerobatic trainer such as Sig Four Star or similar before flying this plane. The OS .61 FX will fit but you will have to get creative when balancing the model. Using a good ball bearing .46 engine such as an OS .46 AX/FX, may tame it down for you untill you get comfortable with it. As far as servos are concerned, no you do not have to get the same servos that came with your transmitter. Most servo brands will work with your receiver. I'm not sure about Airtronics though. Good luck and keep us updated.

as said before, the extra in an advanced airplane probably 4 steps above where you should begin on a high wing trainer

The landing gear is made of alluminium.

MetallicaJunkie -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (2/21/2008 7:11:37 AM)

how is the stock landing gear holding up, and does it come with a spinner, if not, what size is it?

Mr67Stang -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (2/21/2008 7:21:39 AM)

The landing gear is holding up fine. I had one less than gracefull landing with the X-260 where my tail was too high at touch down and I pushed into a tuft of grass and had a very sudden stop. No damage to report. The ARF does NOT come with a spinner and a 2.25 inch looks right to me... see my pictures and judge for yourself if you want more or less spinner. If you have the Red ARF the Great planes red plastic spinners are a good match... If you have the Blue ARF uhm... get an aluminium spinner because there is no light/medium blue plastic spinners, at my LHS anyway.

MetallicaJunkie -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (2/21/2008 7:42:34 AM)

im glad to hear that its holding up, and glad to know i have a nice 2 1/4 TT lying around, i got the red one btw, the blue one is sold out, i still would have gone with the red anyhow

Mr67Stang -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (5/5/2008 6:39:36 AM)

Today was an excellent day for flying! Very little wind. So I took my Extra 260 out and tossed it around a bit. This plane flys so nice on a calm day. I have since previous posts pushed my CG forward some as I may have been a bit over zealous with it at first. This plane held a nice stable hover until I got bored doing it (normally about 30 seconds for me). I also do so at a nice safe altidude as the OS 55 AX has just a little pull out power reserve. Knife edge is pretty well locked in with the improved ballance it has very little coupling. I am now geting a little pealing of the monocoat just behind the cowl on the bottom side. I would love to hear how others are doing with this plane. Metalica Junkie? SFMMcoasters? Anyone else?

Oh how I wish Monocoat was used...

I've been applying Topflight Clear coat on all of the NP planes, and this has worked great to prevent trim from pealing or coming off.

MetallicaJunkie -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (5/9/2008 10:53:08 PM)

mines still flying great.... its a bit snappy when i pull back abruptly but other than i like it, ive done full throttle snaps, dives, blenders etc... and its still structurally sound.... the covering is horrible... i gave up on it and just ca it where its peeling

SFMMcoasters -> RE: NP extra 260 ***VIDEO Link in Post #20 (5/12/2008 1:44:28 AM)

I have the two black stripes peeling on either side, and the yellow underneath the cowling where there is that cut away keeps peeling off. I've been fixing it constantly, and now just switched to painting epoxy all over the seem on the front.

Yep... That is exactly where mine is comming apart. I think I will just epoxy coat it as well and be done with it... Good idea. I have not had any trouble with the black stripes yet though. Might be time to break out the clear nail pollish and tack down the leading edge...
