I know it's not the greatest engine, but it ran great until I let it set for 2 months while I played with newer toys. The problem is a super sensitive low end adjustment is either too rich or too lean. When it's running lean (at low throttle) I can't even kill it with the carb all the way shut. I tried taking the low end spring out and stretching it just a little, thinking that the needle wasn't returning to the same spot every time. This has not helped.

Does anyone know how many turns the low and high end settings should be out? I keep thinking that I need to find a happy medium with the low and high settings.

All advice appreciated

Sounds like you have an airleak. I helped buddy out who had same problem w/ his 4 stroke Magnum. Put some fuel tubing over the high end needle valve and try your adjustments again.

A new plug or a hotter plug will help idle, did you try a new plug,is the weather a little cooler there now.You have to have a hot enough plug to stay lit during the exaust stroke hotter plug will make your idle adjustment less sensitive.Fuel that sits to long after being opened can also lose some of its zip.Could be that considering you took a 2 month break.

I'll try a new plug. It has an OS "F" right now, and I'll try the spare one I have. Fuel is not the issue, I spent the 2 months burning fuel in newer planes. I did however swich to 15%, when the engine had only previously run on 10%. I've heard that some FS's dont like the higher Nitro. Opinions?

Try the plug but first try the fuel tubing over the high end needle. 4 strokes can tolerate high nitro very well. Your engine should have no problem. My buddy used 10% in his and I let him borrow a gallon of my 20/20 and it was a marked improvement in his Magnum;s performance.

Using 15% is not the problem. I am assuming you have no fuel leaks, fuel tank problems either.

I haven't noticed any bubbles in the line. I wonder if there could be a leak around the carb? I disassemble it tonight and look at the O-rings.

Check your valve adjustments too. They could be off a smidgen. It could be that after setting for awhile there is a bit of gunk not letting them operate properly too.

I took some advice I got here, and the engine now runs great. I forgot how much fun it is to fly the plane. Anyway, I put some fuel tube over the needle valve, and installed a new Glow plug. Thanks for the advice.
