let me start by saying... i have a nitro tc3 stock setup, whenever i try to accelerate quickly in a drag type situation the car wants to pull to a side. if i adjust the trim to compensate it will just pull to the other side. my car never has a straight, its always one way or the other. i dont think it is a traction issue, all my tires are completely touching the road and it does it under mild acceleration also, just not as bad. with either rubber or foam tires. is it common to have to compensate to one direction or the other while drag racing an all wheel drive car? i dont have swaybars, ive never messed with the shock spacers, it has done this since day one. i measured the alignment by drawing lines on the tire with a sharpie and measuring with string on the front and back, the rear tires toe in just a little and the front are straight on. and when its coasting its as straight as an arrow. any suggestions?

Hey toyota1991,

Have you tried adjusting the differential down as tight as it will go? Sounds as though one tire is getting grip sooner or more than the other. A locked diff seems to work best when drag racing with a conventional transmission. Not sure what kind of diff you have in your tranny. Below works with a gear diff. Never tried it on a ball diff.

If its a gear diff, use the heaviest grease you can find. Tamiya makes an Anti-Wear AW Grease that will really slow diff action. I recommend doing that to see if it helps before locking the diff.

On the AHR43 R1E Bracket Rustler I used J-B Weld epoxy to lock the diff. But that's for-sure permanent.

See if this helps.

BTW-nice low rider.

Oz

Yep. Sure will. But if you have the power, just hit the gas and spin it to the direction you want to go. Kinda hard on tires though. Locking the diff will put additional strain on the other gears in your tranny. There is no longer the option for one wheel or the other to slip. They either both grip or both have to slip. If your tranny is nylon gear, look to maybe at least one aluminum or steel gear or upgrade to derin tranny gears. But it's a nitro car, so I'm thinking the tranny's got to be stout anyway.

That's why I rceommend just tightening the diff you have in there now to see if it solves the problem before taking the drastic action to lock the diff. Once the diff is locked, the car is kinda committed to straight line action. To really, really lock the diff, it's a permanent thing. At least it was for me. Oh, you can still turn; you just won't be cruising any RC drive-ins...

Hope this helps.

it is way the motor is positioned, since the motor is not perpindicular to the chassis it will want to torque to one side

does silly puddy sound like a viable option for testing puposes?
if the engine were the problem then is there anything that can be done to counter act the torque issue?

get on clean asphalt not the concrete/asphalt mix, use foam tires, and locking the diff
mine only did that with an aftermarket motor the stock motor didnt do it very bad, but it is mostly you road

Well, yeah. Kinda. Know where you're starting from and keep record of how much you tighten the diff. Like +1/8, +1/4, +1 etc. That's so you can get back to where you started from if you need to.

2916jr, Good point on the engine torque. I'm an electric guy, so don't always take nitro engine mounting into the equation.

only problem I had was when under hard acceleration other than that it wouldnt do it, after awhile you will learn to control it on the controler as in very small increments on the steering wheel

on a real drag car we would take out all the toe in an toe out because it was easy to stear when it would get light on the front tires but when any weight was on them, it would pull right or left. i would try a little toe in and make it always pull to the right or left, witch ever your more comfortable with. if it always pulls to right then compensate with trim to stear strait or just stay on the controler. because it will then be predictable. it may eat away your tires a little faster but who cares if you win the race $$$$. hope this helps any

Here's proof that a TC3 can work very well. I had that same torque steer problem but found that my tires were not the same diameter. I got the tires trued and that fixed alot of it and then I locked the diffs too with JB Weld.
