Hi all, I am looking to get a good 450 size heli capable of 3d. I have been in the hobby for quite some time and have plenty of stick time on a .30 size Kalt and Blade CP. I have a $600 total budget including shipping to my door. The more i read about each the more confused i get about making a choice. So far I have narrowed it down the following:

Belt Cp carbon RTF package for approximatly $415
Art-Tech Shark 450 RTF with carbon blades $415
Blade 400 RTF $444
CopterX 450SE W/ Futaba Radio RTF approx $570 shipped

Im thinking that the machine most comparable to a Trex is the CopterX450SE, this is from ehibiro.com , I just don't like the thought of spending almost $100 for shipping. does anybody have any recommendations for a RTF heli on this budget?

Id say the shark would be the second most appealing heli

Ive heard bad things about the 8g servos that are provided with the Belt CP, so thats why i am hesitant about this heli. Thank you for any help!

I am not a fan of art-teck i got burned preaty bad by them the copter x seems like a great deal i think i have been told that all its parts are t-rex compatable. But if you are not againest building your own I think you can much better buy just getting it your self or here in the classifeds there is some dude selling a nice used dragonus ii, for less than 400$, The blade 400 is very nice it comes with a great little radio but for parts you are going to be a slave to Horizon. I myself when I first got into the Hobby I went to my local feild talked to some of the guys there and on of them sold me a nice bird dirt cheap and even helped me fly it. Rember this is just my opinion get what you thinks the coolest, have fun AX

CopterX, cons are parts replacement via online only, may be down for several weeks without parts, second and it might be better as parts can be had at most LHS is the B400. You might be a slave to Eflite but that is the same for all other heli brands, just don't crash

If you were willing to do a little of the work yourself, which you are going to end up doing anyway....and bought an ARF instead of a supposed RTF you could get a lot more heli for the money.

I don't think I'd buy a PCM radio at this time, in a few months they're going to be giving one away with a $200.00 heli.

I bought a hurricane 550 from flying-hobby and the shipping was 50$. It arrived in 5 days. i would think on something this size it would be somewhere around 30$

Alot of these RTF at store combo's have junk parts you will come out better if you build it yourself.

Recently I was in my LHS and he opened a carton with the new Blade 400. It was compared side by side with a customers Trex 450. The comparison was very favorable..

Better yet, It came with the new Spektrum DX6i 2.4 Ghz radio (the best IMHO) , Battery, Charger and more. It was completely assembled ready to fly without buying anything else! Very impressive!

It looks like a fine way to start with a Heli of that size.

Good Luck

Here's another option:

EXI 450 from xheli.com $99 (free shipping)
gyro - Logictech 2100T/futaba s3154 combo $130 (no need to upgrade later)
Turnigy motor and hextronik ESC $40 (from hobbycity)
3 x $20 servos (you pick) $60
battery - Zippy 2100 11.1V 20C $25 at hobbycity
Misc other (pinions, blades, etc.) $50

That's a little over $400, you can spend the rest on more batteries, radio equipment, build tools, etc. This is the route I'm taking after a lot of research. The EXI 450 is a smokin' deal on a t-rex clone. That's a realistic budget, and leaves room for a lot of stuff like a swash leveler, ball link pliers, and other stuff that you wont get in an RTF package.

I still believe I would check out the new Blade 400. No need to look for parts nor radio. It is all included and matched to the job at hand. I believe that the LHS guy said, when assembly was finished it was tweaked & test flown. Should be no adjustments required.

Take it out of the box, charge the batteries & go flying.

Either the Trex 450 or the Blade 400 was slightly heavier than the other. Wouldn't make any difference was the consenus opinion of the Heli pilots present. All were impressed.
