Just as in full size, the bike needs some forward momentum before it'll balance,so give it a push.

The steering also needs to be reversed, that is when you steer left on your TX the front wheel wants to point as if it's turning right and vice versa.Bikes steer by leaning and not pointing the wheel in the direction you want to go,so if you point the front wheel to the right, the bike will lean over to its left hand side.

A pic of your steering set up would help.

If you've got a direct connection without some form of springs or fuel tube fitted from the servo to the forks you will have problems.

A standard servo is adequate on the steering if you're only bashing.

The servo only initiates the lean, the throttle does the turning.
That is,if you try to turn on full throttle you'll only be able to do wide turns. It's no problem to turn a bike through 180 degrees in about ten feet when you master throttle control, just forget anything you learned about steering cars,it's not the same for a bike.

The faster you go the harder it is to get a bike to turn or change direction.Adjusting the steering rake or the spring tension on the servo rod will affect how nimble the bike is.

No idea what a crash kit is,but if you mean the wire sliders that stick out of the side, just bend some up from piano wire.

The bikes don't need a lot from the servo. You can get away with the cheapest lightweight servo and still get good input to the steering.
You really want the front end to flop from side to side when you grab the bike and shake it.
The next thing to do is make sure the front end is real straight without adjusting the trim on your transmitter.
Then you will want to back the transmitters steering endpoints til you just get the front to move side to side. After you get the hang of it you will readjust the endpoints.
Now give it a try, just remember the bikes won't turn very sharp when they are going fast and if the front end just plows on you let go of the steering after you initiate your turn.
If you look up Benwell racing on the web they have one of the best tutorials for setting up the bikes and understanding how to steer them that I have ever read.

And if all else fails we can meet at NORCAL and I will show you how to setup one of these beasts.

Here is the benwell page
