I have an old set of plans for a Model Airplane News Fairchild Ranger, which will likely be my next scratch build. The plans show a .15 2-stroke motor and floats to suit. It might be from the mid-1980s?

Has anyone built this plane? I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Joel

I have the article, but no actual plans. The text goes on and on about the merits of the original A/C but says little about the model.

I cut out the plans this evening, hoping to cut some ribs and make a bit of a start over the next two days.

For such a small plane there is a tremendous amount of plywood up the front - all the bulkheads and the fuselage sides to the trailing edge are 1/8" lite ply. I'm thinking about replacing most of that with balsa - I don't have any 1/8" ply on hand at the moment and balsa is easier to work with (I only have a hand saw). I'm thinking the fuselage could be done with 3/16" or 1/4" balsa instead, same for the bulkheads. My 40-sized Tiger Moth is all balsa except for the landing gear mounts and firewall, don't see why I can't make the switch here.

Hi,

I have started a build thread on this plane here:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6921037/tm.htm

This plane is being built 'out of a suitcase' in the evenings on my various road trips around the Australian mining industry. Road Warrior scratch building is a challenge but it's getting underway nicely.

Please drop in and have a look.

Kind regards,

Joel
