I just recieved my new 989. The psu fan comes on as soon as I start charging at 3 or more amps, even when the psu temp is under 100º. It does not run steady, but pulses. It revs up, slows down, revs up, slows down, for about 5 minutes, then stops and does not come back on throughout the rest of the charge. It's kind of annoying. Does anyone elses 989 do this or know if it is supposed to be like this? Thanks!

That does sound like it's starting at too low of an amperage. And, it should stay running, at least until the power supply cools down, but I can't see it not starting up again sometime during the charge. If you want to send the power supply in for us to look at, and for possible replacement, I'd be happy to do that for you.

Thanks Tim, I'll probably do that.
Could you also give me an idea of what my settings should be for cycling my batteries? They are 7.2 volt 6 cell 3300 mah nimh batts that have sat all winter and just weren't performing very well at all using my pirana charger. They were also false peaking frequently. I bought this 989 to hopefully revive them (6 in all). They are the black and red E-Savage batteries, if you're familiar with those.
Any recommended settings for the following would be greatly appreciated!
1) Charge amperage (anything over 3 is causing the batt to get too hot - 155º - and stop charging).
2) Discharge amperage
3) Peak cutoff (I have at 5mv)
4) Low voltage cutoff (anything above "1" and it doesn't seem to discharge, it just quits after 1 or 2 seconds and waits for the charge cycle).
5) # of cycles
6) Also a good general amperage to charge these at for general use, when not cycling.
Hope I'm not asking too much here, but the instructions...well, you know.
Thanks!

I would set both the charge rate and the discharge rate for 3.3 amps for cycling. I would also set the voltage cut off on discharge to 0.9 volts. The peak cut off of 5mv is just fine. I would set the delay for about 30 minutes to allow the battery to cool. I would see what kind of capacity you get out of these before you hit them at anything higher than the 3.3 amps.
