ChuckC -> Another EVO 12 to 2.4 question (1/30/2008 4:37:07 PM)

Mike,

Can you elaborate on where Multiplex is going with the 2.4 conversion of exiting EVO 12 radios? Specifically, are you looking to adapt the XPS system officially or are you working on another engineering solution/approach?

How about a timeline for an officially supported 2.4 conversion package to hit the streets?

Thanks,

Sorry, we don't know; nor can we estimate a timeline. As far as I know there is no plan to adopt the XPS systems.

This is Multiplex Germany's stance on this subject at this time as posted on their website.

MULTIPLEX on: 2.4 GHz

"2.4 gigahertz" is a key word, since some time on everyone's lips and in all media sports presence of the model. We are asking every day and take about as follows:

A new technology?

Yes and no.

Yes, because that frequency range in sports model still has played no role and still not too many experiences that are available.

No, because this frequency range (ISM band = Industrial Scientific Medical) for digital data transmission is shared and used many - including WLAN, Bluetooth, wireless phones, Garagentoröffnern and even from the "Microwave", which almost every budget can be found.

What makes the 2.4 GHz model sport?

The advantages are very interesting - for example, Automatic channel selection, short antennas at stations and receiver, telemetry applications, higher data transmission rates (many control functions with high resolution). Since the usage but not on the model of sports is limited, The risks of disruption by the many users of this band, the model does not sport, is difficult to assess.

The promising experience with 2.4 GHz remote controls from the United States are on the European market only transferable. The benefits are certified there is a several times higher than in Europe. A higher transmission power brings know, a significant advantage in terms of transmission reliability and range.

What is the "legal" side?

For 01.07.2008 stands for the technical rules in Europe a change. From today, it is not clear whether the products being sold, the new rules comply. It will be discussed in some countries, the use of the model flying field can be prohibited. In this case, although the "inventory protection" for those who such a facility bought the topics accessories and spare parts could then became a problem develop, as is the example of the 434-MHz systems (Which even admitted) has shown.

What does MULTIPLEX?

We as RC manufacturers naturally want to meet the needs of the market react, customer preferences meet and the technical progress. We work because this technology available to our customers. Whether the technology in our special application as a wireless remote control for models under all operating conditions without restrictions safe work, it must be thoroughly examined. This includes extensive field tests in all cases. Therefore, we will only be imagine a system where our customers sophisticated products in a future - technology can provide.

Holy mackerel !

THAT was a tough read! Through all the German translation, it means:

We're working on it, but want to be sure it's right, safe and marketable.

Huh - too bad the XPS problems, because I sure like the clean retrofit...

Oh well, the Multiplex transmission scheme seems sound for now.
