So after making some initial adjustments and tightening and loctiting the screws on the spur gear I put the first tank through my RTX today. I have to admit that I was impressed at it's grunt and handling even though it was extremely rich. The parts quality looks pretty high and it seems like a tough truck. I'll be testing it out on the track this saturday, so we'll see how it goes.

What is the setup that you guys are using for racing? I assume you're running the suspension at it's lowest setting? Any diff tuning or other things that I should look into to make sure it performs well?

Thanks!

Well, I have now gotten some time to run my new RTX and even got some track time in. I must say that overall I'm extremely impresed with it's track manners, but first things first. I set the motor a bit richer than the reccomended 4.5 turns to ensure a good cool first tank, and the first tank went very well. Started easily, idled forever, and drove fine, albeit a little sliggish. Proceeding to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th tanks I leaned incrementally, but by very little to ensure I wasn't over leaning, and though the engine was a bit fussy when cold, once warm, it ran like a raped ape with a billowing smoke trail. . I have only run one tank with it leaned a bit now to just over 4 turns out, and am excited to tune this motor as it's making great power now.
Motor aside, the sheer weight and beefiness of the truck had be believeing that there was no way this thing would perform on a track, and boy was I wrong. Withe the suspension set low, this thing really squats, and with this much steering and tire ont eh ground, it tracks and steers fantastic. It also jumps well. I let a buddy of mine take the wheel for a tank, and he is used to touring cars, and 1/10 scale 2wd's and he was also very impressed with the way it handled both on the track and in the air. IF a monster truck can get the thumbs up from him, it deserves it.
We'll see how it holds up over the long run, but for now, I am definetely impressed with the RTX and look forward to getting it out to the track again soon.

Hello all I have read lots of bad about the warhead online, just purchased an rtx in sept. the breakin went well I have run alittle more than a galon of gas through it .had a few major crashes few breaks (front center skid plate, lost my front drive shaft few tweaks with the alum. fame.)steering servo went after 5th tank aside from those minor kinks lol (driver error mostly)I thnik this truckis pretty friggn' awsome.I also found that by adding 0 offset wheels and low pro tires = less rollover and cooler stance in race mode looks monsterish AFFA164 upgrades look awsome how $$ if you don't mind? I have my wish list with towwer hobbies anyone know where or if you can get alum. without the color like the blue though

hahahah, readster, to be really honest... i dont really know exactly how much, but i can tell you i have spent almost 2K in this truck. I will be posting updated pics, i just installed new electronics... digital servos and radio, 5000mAh receiver pack, LRP Z.28R spec 3 truggy engine, Buku Pipe + RB Products header.... and the list goes on!!!!

The most important is how much fun you have with your truck and not how much you spent on it. I must tell you I installed all that aluminium last year and since then i only drove the car like 2 times this year. I decided it was time to proceed with the second batch of upgrades so that i can squeeze the heck out of the truck this december. My girlfriend got a new job and she will be working on saturdays and sundays this year... because of christmas, and this time will be more than enough to finish installing everything. I have everything in its original packing and just last weekend i decided to finished this project i started long ago.

My advice... have fun, replace the thing you brake and if you can upgrade it step by step... i made the error to place large orders on tower, long ago and i still have many parts un packed... like the LRP engine!!!

Question for those that have tinkered with this truck a bit. I have my RTX fully broken in now, and after a day at a smaller indoor track, (where the truck didn't ever get up enough speed to shift to second gear) Now the truck won't shift at all. The engine is tuned very well, and it has a ton of power, but it won't get out of first gear. I have disassembled the center gearbox, cleaned and inspected everything, and all looked well. I also loosened the shift adjustment screw considerably without any result. Is there a "sweet spot" as in a certain number of turns out from tight that the truck shifts at? Is there a particular part that I should look at that may be causing this issue?

ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!! I want second gear back, it's so much more fun!

I had that same problem a few tanks after break in, but come to find out I had a small air leak in the backplate. If your engine is running great and it's not leaking fluid anywhere. The only thing I can think of is the slipper clutch needs to be tightened or replaced (That is if the clutch shoes and bell look OK). I've got almost two gallons through mine now and my shoes and bell have little wear on them. I made the mistake of backing out the adjusting screw to far and lost it in the tranny, screwing up the little spring that's inside the 2-speed clutch. (Won't make that mistake again). I will be getting rid af the Sooper Pooper though. I'm going with the LRP Z.28. Still need help on what pipe to mate it with. Any suggestions?

The RTX is the improved/newest version of the Warhead/Warhead Evo which both had reverse. The Transmissions can be swapped but you'd need all the parts from a Warhead to make it work. I'm not sure if they changed the radio or if the RTX still has the switch for reverse on it. Reverse was kinda problematic and adds alot of weight so alot of people opt to remove it. I've got an RTX Trans in one of my trucks and the other is getting a reverse elim as soon as I tear it down.

This may not be the best place to post this since most probably already have one, but I found a killer deal on a new RT-X27.

Towerhobbies has them for $249.99 and I got a coupon code for $50 off $250. My total shipped was $19998 and change. Im a tower member so free shipping, but if you arent add $10 for shipping. I got mine and for the $$ its awesome.

Coupon code - 016R4 ($50 off $249.90)

Hi from michigan. I am new to the world of rc. I currently have a Traxxas slash with a velion setup. But i am thinking of going nitro, and getting the rtx from tower. Its only 250 right now, so i can afford it. I was just wondering what you guys/gals thought of it? is it worth it, or should i look into something else? I am looking for a 4wd truck that can take a pretty good beating, i live in a city, so i attempt to climb/jump, whatever i think looks cool. haha. I also want nitro, im getting a bit tired of charging my batteries right now. Thanks again.

Yes and No. this truck is better then the fist Wardhead but there are better trucks out there. If this is your first Nitro I would go with the T-maxx or the Hpi Savage. I like my Warhead and use it all the time but if your looking for a solid truck with more run time then wrench time go with the other brands. I have all three so this is just my 2 cents. Plus most hobby shops don't carry the Duratrax parts. (Well they don't in my state anyway) Good luck.

I agree with rcbeep... this truck requiers a lot of wrenching, once you fix all the bugs its a great truck... get prepared for spending $$$$.

T-maxx and Savage have bough way better trannys and this is a plus... taking apart the tranny is not that complicated but you can spare the headache. If you are planning in driving the RTX stock... then get something else, if you will make some changes then get it.... you will gain a lot of experience.

One last thing... you wont get anything better for 250 bucks, if you can spend a little more i would greatly suggest it... it will be cheaper in the long term and if you dont have experience with nitro the RTX could make you hate nitro and stick to charging batteries.

Just my own opinion!

BTW.... the super pooper kind of sucks... traxxas and hpi engines are waaaaay better choices. The super pooper needs some sealing, a lot of people has heating problems, tunnig issues and it is probably you will want to replace it after a long fight with it.

Once again... if you are patient, can spend some extra $ in some upgrades and want to get good experience with nitro.... then go for it. If you are tired of spending time charging batteries... this means you will get tired if wrenching... if so.. go for the Tmaxx or Savage.

I hope we did not scare him from nitro... I love my warhead but again get something better for your first nitro truck. Another good nitro truck in the mt2 HPI. It's not cheap but it's a tough little truck. You cant take big jumps but it's very easy to work on and the engine is good and strong. Another truck is the Nitro Evader but it's only 2 wheel drive but it's a fast one and it comes with an OS engine and you can't beat that...
