Mike, I have a new, but from original production run 1/3rd scale Hangar 9 CAP 232. The person I bought it from tried to modify it for a single aileron setup which I thought was a bad idea, so I returned it to the original configuration. When I went to cover the areas of repair I found the blue Ultracote covering did not even come close to matching! The manual says the blue covering is Hangar 9 Ultracote HANU845 - Pearl Blue. I purchased a roll of this and came out with a vastly mismatched covering. Although this kit is new, yet a little older, I though well maybe its faded or something, but I compared my roll to all the covering on the airplane, all of which was still in the factory sealed bags, and they simply are different. My roll that I bought was labeled Utracote "HANU845 Pearl Blue" .. same as the manual has listed for the airplane. What's going on? Can I get the correct color covering for this airplane? Did Hangar 9 change the color of their HANU845 Pearl Blue to some other Pearl Blue? I also have a new roll of Ultracote Midnight Blue and a roll of Ultracote Deep Blue. Neither of those match the plane either. What am I to use to get the correct color match?

Unfortunatly there has always been variance in color match from run to run with Ultracote. In my experience the Pearl colors seem to vary more than the non-pearls because they have to match both pigment and metal flake. The colors havent changed though.

So, .. If I understand correctly, if I buy yet another roll of HANU845 Pearl Blue, there is at least a chance that I could get a proper match? I think I'll take that chance. Also, I agree with what you said. The colors appear the same when they are not laid next to each other. The metal flake in the covering thats on the plane is rather subtle, but the metal flake in the patch is very intense and prominent. I guess this must be the culprit. I'll buy another roll, .. and it will have to be a very close match, or I'll strip all the blue from the wing and recover the entire blue section ....... Which is probably the best idea anyway.
