I bought two of these right after Tower Hobbies started shipping them. I had a particularly good discount code at the time, and I sold them on E-Bay for a decent profit. They looked really nice when I opened the box to peek at them.

It is one of the best engines OS has ever produced in my opinion. It starts, transitions, and idles better than any engine I've ever owned, most of which were OS. It is a very strong engine, and has enough torque to run an APC 13x4 quite easily. I have mine on a Mojo .40 profile.

Outstanding performance engine, lots of torque and power, thats the good side.
Bad side : replacement parts have prices out of this world, just one example: carburator body 39 dlls or 27% the price of a new 55 AX all this at tower hobbies

This is the last OS engine I will ever buy.

alcarafa,
Don't worry, you'll probably never have to buy parts for this engine!

I have one on a Telemaster 40. I know, not much of a high performance plane, but the engine flys it beautifully. I'm running an APC 12x5 prop and it ALWAYS runs, very dependable and transitions smoothly.

Flip, fly, repeat.

No fuss at the flying field. I think it's an outstanding engine.

I agree with "DUCK" as to the quality of the motor...
Almost the same size and weight as a 46 but with more power...

Right on guys.

I did some research before I bought.

There were many other choices. I actually bought The O.S. because of the price, for the power it seemed good for reputable and readily available engine. I plane to use this motor for 3D so any set up tips would be greatly appeciated.

Lets keep this thread going and compile info for the 55ax here.

Thanx,JDXX

Oly I did bought the replacement carb body due to flying inverted very low with gusty winds Compared to Webra 50 they have almost same performance, but parts for OS are 100% more expensive.

Webra: weight 320 grm / 11.5 oz - price 139 dlls - rpms 2500 / 16500
OS: weight 404 grms / 14.3 oz - price 150 dlls - rpm 2000 / 17000

I have 2 OS .55AXs. They are the sweetest engine you'll ever have and I have, or have had, all other brands. No, that's a lie, I never owned an MDS. Oh, well.

It starts usually in one back flip-no need for a starter. It only weighs 1 ounce more than my OS .46AXs and puts out more power. It idles well and transitions well. It also responds well to a JettStream tuned muffler. I gained 1,700 rpm on an 11-6 APC and 1,500 rpm on an 11-7 APC.

The carb is just outstanding. Everything is on the left side. I side mount a lot and there is no more lifting the plane to adjust the low end. Not that you have to do it much on an OS.

I don't think you are going to be able to find one person that is not completely happy with the 55AX, its outstanding.

Copy all of the positives listed in the above posts. Mine is in a .46 size pattern airplane. It is turning a 11-7 APC prop a 13,200 on 10% cool power fuel with the stock muffler, baffle still installed. That is what my old-school .60 turned out with a pipe "back in the day."

Yes, it costs more than the China knock-offs, and the parts do cost more, but you get what you pay for.

Buy and enjoy. Don't let the O.S. haters sway you.

best regards.
-Robert

My 55 should be here wensday or thurs.

Thanks for the replies. I guess there are not a lot of issues with this engine. I have read not to use a pitt's style muffler , thats about it.

The 55 is a wonderful engine and I don't think it is too overpriced. I love mine and can't say enough good about it. I do however love a bargain so my current project is making a mag
