Hi Matt,

My pulse has held up very well and I don't baby it. Yes, you can push the sticks to the limits with the recommended throws set on the control surfaces. Using common sense will keep it flying for a long time. If you read all of this thread you will see that there are a couple of minor issues that you will need to pay attention to. The hatch will come off in flight if you use a glow engine and don't use some additional method to hold it on. The tail feathers will loosen after a few flights so check them often and retighten as necessary. Be careful here and don't tighten excessively so that you pull the studs out of the wood. Also check the security of the CA hinges from time to time to be sure that all of them are still secure. It flys beautifully so go have fun.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reassurence, I have not put too much time in putting it together yet, but it has still progressed well. Much easier than any other ARF:-) If it flies as well as it goes together, I will be happy.

You guys that have the Pulse 40 xt - I am just building mine and have run into a problem... There are no dowels to put into the leading edge of the wing to hold the front of the wing in place. It has the two holes which are 1/4" and only one dowel in the whole package and thats 5/16". The holes in the fuse are a sloppy 5/16" so I guess that would work but It looks like I have to drill out the holes in the wing and get some more dowel rod. The instructions say that I am supposed to glue in a dowel pin into the wing half for aligning the two halves but thats already been installed from the factory.
( maybe thats the 5/16" dowel pin I have) ...anyone else run into this???

The plane flies better than it is easy to put together. Easy handling in the air and landing also. She does like to float when landing though. Mine will progress on a nice sinking flight path towards the runway then at about 2' ~ 3' she will just glide along at that height. Most likely picking up ground effects. A head wind will stop this floating or if no head wind a tiny touch of down elevator does the trick for me.

The wheel pants on mine are developing cracks on the inside only, just behind the rubber on the wheels. I am not certain but I think these cracks are vibration induced. Or maybe by landing on the grass runway beside our covered runway. My new Twist 150 is doing the same thing in the same place, so perhaps it is a design problem instead. Though I do fly both planes at the same field and under the same conditions. I will try to remember to take a picture of the cracks this evening and post back to this thread.

Bob

You say that there is already a pin in the aft end of the root rib of one wing. (see page 39, steps 4 & 6 of your manual) That should be the anti-rotation pin and it should be made of metal (3/16" aluminum). The dowels for the leading edge that mate with the fuselage holes are also to be glued in place by you. I had to glue in all three and the wooden leading edge dowels where, as I remember, in a seperate small plastic bag that I almost threw away. I hope that isn't what happened in your case, but if so, I'll bet Hanger9 will send you some new ones, or find a like sized dowel at your local Hobby/Craft store and use that as a substitute. In any case find a substitute that will fit the wing tightly and then drill the fuselage to match.

Yeah, the pin in the root end was/is already put in and it’s a wood dowel and it’s glued in. Mine must be different because my page 39 is the AMA safety code. And there is no mention about the pin in the root mentioned anywhere in the manual. I was careful to make sure that I didn’t throw anything out- I’ve done that before on other models. I just went and bought 5/16” dowel rod and made my own. It took longer to ask for the help than it did to drive to home depot. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Mike,
I now see that you have a.40 size Pulse. I'm sure that is why your anti-rotation pin and manual are different from my .60 size Pulse. I replied without checking your original post closer and assumed you had the new .60 size that this thread follows. Sounds like you have it all under control anyway. Sorry for the confusion.

So is anyone setting it up as electric? That's my plan. It says it will take 6S packs and I have a few FP 6S1P 4900'S just waiting for a home.

I've just built this with the recommendend E-Flite power set-up and prop with FlightPower 6S1P 5000mAh. Went together with no real problems apart some common issues noted in this thread:

= Elevator pushrod tube wasn't glued.
= Battery hatch magnets on the fuselage were recessed too far back in their holes so the hatch could come loose in flight. The fix with the rubber band noted earlier in the thread won't work for electric as my battery pack is over the space the rubber band would pass through. Think I'm going to add hook-and-loop at the back of the underneath sides of the hatch to stop it lifting up.

Still waiting for the weather to clear up before I maiden her...

I am assembling the pulse 60 now using the electric option. The 60 Brushless motor does not extend out far enough to use the backplate and spinner supplied with the kit so I currently have the prop set up with the shaft extension and spinner supplied with the motor. Would like to know if anyone else ran into this and was able to adapt the kit parts somehow.

Thanks

The motor won't extend far enough on it's own but you can use the supplied yellow spinner. Here's how... use the shaft adaptor that came with the motor on the motor shaft, then put on the backplate of the yellow spinner on the shaft adaptor, then the prop, then use the metal spinner with the motor as the prop nut, then screw the yellow spinner to the yellow spinner back plate. Make sure the prop doesn't touch the sides of the spinner cone or that'll cause your prop to fail.

I needed to widen the yellow spinner and prop shaft hole to the width of the shaft adaptor to get them on. I used a tapered reamer (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3869&doy=29m6&C=SO&U=strat15) to do this - work from the FRONT of the spinner backplate / prop face, make a couple of turns and try it on the shaft extension. You want the holes to be as tight as possible so the prop and spinner rotate centrally and are balanced, be patient makingf the hole! Also make sure you add the correct hub adaptor to the prop that fits the shaft extension, if your using a APC prop these hub adaptors should of come with your prop.

On the prop, I had to remove a lot of the moulding flac from the back of the hub as when I stood above the model and rotated the prop by hand one blade rotated further forward than another so wasn't flush to the shaft adaptor and was unbalanced. Removing the flac with a hobby knife made the prop rotate evenly.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the reply indiened . I actually have done everything you mention here already. Everything seems good. Just waiting for a little less wind to check her out.
