Status: offline 		I've been designing and installing home theaters for 6 years, and I've had the best bang for the buck with Polk Audio. They have some new ones out, not sure of the model, but run 2-500 bucks depending on size.. Real good sound, and never had a bad one.
Just my .02. I have a 404 in my system, and I love it.

Status: offline 		If it's only for your bedroom you can get away with a little Sony 8" powered subwoofer with a built in crossover and volume control. I bought a floor demo at Best Buy for under $100.00 and it fills a living room with decent low end. Although a subwoofer in your bedroom may pi$$ off your roomates/housemates! My computer audio system (total cost of about $75.00) includes a small adjustable subwoofer and would be a pretty good inexpensive bedroom setup.
