I'm looking for any recommendations on the correct right and down thrust compensation angles for mounting a DA-100 in a Lanier 1/3 scale Extra300S. I have usually provided 1.5 to 2 degrees in other, smaller airplanes and was wondering if that was appropriate for this plane. The plans show mounting the engine on the centerline with no compensation and I don't think that would work out very well. Since the DA-100 only leaves about 1/10 inch on each side inside the cowl, there is no room to spare for engine realignment later. Any help would be appreciated. I sent this request to Great Planes over a week ago and of course they never bothered to respond. Thanks!

no down thrust should be needed for the Lanier plane. Two degrees of right thrust should be about right for the model. Use three degrees if you want to do a lot of slow, 3-D type of flying.

Thanks Corry. I'll put in the two degrees. I was thinking down thrust for better up and down lines because the 300s is such a low wing compared to the 260. (More upper half resistance.) Adding down thrust later can depend on how it flies since the limitation is in the side of the cowl. Thanks again.

JMHO, but I think if I were you I'd start with 2 1/2 degrees of right thrust...

As for down or up, how the model is constructed and the location of the centerline in relation to the wing and horizontal stab don't have much to do with that. Incorrect incidences of either of those WILL have an impact on whether or not the airplane can be dynamically trimmed without a lot of compensatory mixes. That has it's own set of problems since those are only good for one airspeed and will change as the airspeed changes.

Unless the manual specifically states that down or up thrust is suggested, leave it alone until you do the flight trimming to ascertain if one or the other is needed.

If you're really that interested in a true flying model, do the checks on the wing and horizontal stab incidences first and verify they meet the manufacturers recommendations. If there are no recommendations, a 0 degree difference from the AC centerline is the place to start.

Thanks Zeeb,
I'm currently flying a 12 year old 39% One Design with a lot of right thrust. I got it from a club member who flies in pro competition and I know he will want to fly this plane. I'm new at large scale and just don't want to embarrass myself as they say "on a large scale" by overlooking something simple. By the way, the wing incidence is recommended at 0 degree and I was very careful to get that exact. I picked up the mufflers today so it's time to mount the engine and pray (for warm weather). Thanks again.
