Status: online 		Just checked it on 3 different scales and they all say the same weight. Are my servos and battery heavier than what others are using? Don't know?? Vess prop so it's less than an APC 17-6. Too much bubble wrap in the wing holding the battery in place?? Not sure about that, does'nt sound right anyway. Just don't know what's up.

Status: offline 		Ahh, I know what the issue is Scott! You are using a "fishing scale"! Those are well known to read on the high side. You know, all the old fishing stories! LOL

Just kidding, I have no explanation for the excess weight you are describing though. I say just get her in the air and she how she flies for you. Wing loading is so light on this plane that extra weight will have no factor at all.

Status: online 		With a Vess prop what spinner are you guys using? The included one does'nt work with the Vess 17-6 of course.

Status: offline 		Spinner? Can't recall if I had a spinner up front. But I know I have with the APC so don't think it would be any different with the Vess. I can tell you you'll have to carve out the plastic blade openings in the spinner to fit the wider 3D props.

Status: online 		Tried that but it gets too close to the screw holes that holds the spinner to the back plate. Might use a spinner nut on it. Wish this dang snow would stop coming down and Spring would get here. I'm ready to fly!

Status: online 		I bought a True Turn spinner and 2 spinner nuts, a light one and a heavy one. Between these I'll use which ever is needed to balance it in the end. I still need to hook up the control linkages. I've been lazy lately. Can't fly here right now anyway. Bummer!!

Status: offline 		Some of the plastic spinners I've been able to cut out and still get over the newer wide props. I have had to cut the openings all the way to the spinner screws though. If the spinner is too small to do this you'll have to go up in size.

Status: offline 		Awesome. We have done that ourselves for the OS 160s when running the fat 18-6W props. Truturn is very good about custom cutting spinners for folks. And now they come in colors!

Status: online 		Well I finally finished the Yak tonight. It's getting a little nicer here and I hope to fly it sometime next week if I'm lucky. It's a little on the nose heavy side right now but I'll adjust that as needed. I'm shocked at the weight though, it's very heavy. I'm at 9.2 pounds and just don't understand why after reading other weights people have. I'm using Hitec 5645's all the way around, not the best servo as far as centering goes, I forget the battery size I stuck in it but I think it's a 2500 anyway, SWB servo arms, OS 120 engine, True Turn spinner and most of the hardware is what came with it. I did use a different clevis from Great Planes on the tail and all the ball links are upgraded. Just does'nt seem right compared to other peoples set ups. I figured I'd be around 8 pounds but 9.2 is shocking!!! It defeats the purpose of why I put this together. I wanted alot of wing without all this weight for 3D.

Status: online 		Mike, great news!! I took the true turn off and went to a light spinner nut and took off the muffler extension that was on and lost some weight. To top it all off I think you were right about the fish scale and the fish stories.. I weighed it when I was finished with the changes on a postal scale and the final weight is ONLY 7 pounds 13 ounces!!!! I'm thrilled to death with that. Not sure whats up with the other scale but I won't be using it anymore. God do I fell better. I wanted to make sure I let you know the great news.

Status: offline 		Scott that is certainly good news. Let us know how she flies for you. I've had scales myself that were very inaccurate. Makes sense the fish scales would read heavy so they can support all those fisherman stories! haha

Status: online 		Maidened the OMP Yak today. The OS 1.20 with the Vess prop is a wicked combo. I ran 2 tanks through it for break in and then flew. The verticle is unreal, it pulls out of site darn near. I'm on the nose heavy side and I think thats hurting the way it fly's and 3D's. Hovering is a handful, knife edge flight was'nt bad, inverted flat spin was good and even started to climb, harriers both upright and inverted were very bad. Had alot of wing rock, worse inverted. The Yak wanted to turn on it's on while in an upright harrier. I think becouse it's nose heavy it wanted to fall out. Lets hear what you think Mike and everyone else who flys this plane. Being nose heavy will hurt the hovering and harriers right? I've heard everyone talk about how easy this profile does both so I must be off somewhere and I assume thats it. It balanced at 7.5 behind the LE of the wing at the root.
