Guys,

There is a guy who wants to sell the following:

Stock F-27C Motor + prop adapter + 4 props: $45 shipped.
ESC: $35 shipped.

Combo: $75 shipped.

When his replacement F-27C from Horizon hobby arrived yesterday he tried to fly it and when during Maiden it hit the ground right after launch (not badly) he went mental......

Another guy bought the fuse and radio and such as far as I know.

The above is what he has left...everything is documented on a thread somewhere and I've been reading it.

If interested send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with him.

Here is my FunJet on 6S, specs are as follows:

Motor - KB28-47 2100KV (from H0bbyCity)
ESC - HiModel 60A, onboard 5 cell AAA pack
Batt - Flight Power EVO25 3S 1,800 in series
Prop - 4.75 x 4.75
Servos - HS56

I don't think she is that fast, looks fast in the video only. Anyways, the video is kinda cr@ppy but maybe someone can use the doppler thingy to let me know how fast she is suppose to be doing. I think its no more than 95 mph.

tIANci,

Ever figure out how fast she was going? Any Doppler data? What was the Amp, Watt, RPM results (if you recall)?

I would think its doing more than 95, or at least would hope so. I can easily get 95mph on a 3s set up. hehe I always laugh to, when I see people running with the Funjet to toss it. I've had some pretty heavy Funjet's and just toss it straight and level like a javalin and have never had one hit the ground. I've had torque roll on the really high kv motors, but no more than about a foot of drop on small props. I've seen more wrecks with people trying to throw planes like the Funjet, Lynx, etc. at 45 degree angles and higher, just to have it head towards the ground. Air flow under the wing, not how high you can get it. I'm just hoping to save some planes by making this statement, not put anyone down.

Hopefully someone will dopler your video. I'm anxious to see how fast its going. If its not going over 100mph, I'll be shocked. Hard to see your plane in the video, but just from the sound of it, I'm saying easily over 100mph. I see, Gryphon standing by. Can't wait to see his comments. hehe WHAT'S UP GRYPHON!

Jim

Healing up nicely, should be flying in the next couple days.

Gryphon ... I got no idea about how fast she is going, will try to get someone to doppler it. Anyways, I feel its just slow and a FJ should be set up with 3S 2,200 or maybe 4S 2,200 only with something like a Mega 16/15/3 only. Anything else and you truly pay the penalty of a higher wing loading. Oh yes ... I went 6S again the other day to chase the 40 sized nitro pylon planes, 2 home made and 1 Sonic 500. I could give them a run for their money and did beat 2 of them. The fun part was I bloated my batts! I know they would bloat but who cares right? We are talking bragging rights here ... heheheehehe ...

Jim ... I know what you mean about launches, the love to throw it UP since planes should go UP. I dread it when that happens. Then you have those who feel the thrust and they give you a limp launch. I always tell my friends to launch her level, I can even bare if its slightly downwards but some seem to have the idea that UP is always better.

Well it's been a while but, I'm back from the beach and so is the FJ.
Here is the latest FJ. If you look back you will see the first that I used as a test bed for the mods. Flys well. It does have a little wiggle due to wing tip vortex. Now I know why Multiplex added the wing tip tank look. Working on a solution.
The current plane is flying with a Micro Dan 2800kv outrunner. E-flite 60amp esc , timed at 20 degrees. APC 5.5x4.5 prop. Runs in the 80-90 mph with low amp draw. I have run APC 6.5x5.5 on it also runs low to mid 90's That's on 3 cells. Haven't tried 4 cell yet.

This combo flys great and the motor is only 55 bucks.

Looks great Chippedprop! I haven't tried the speed motor, but I do have the 5100kv and 2510 3D motor and they're actually pretty good motors. Hey, what's that long wire you got going under the right wing? Is that an antenna wire or you running something else in there?

yes I route the wire so it's in 2 directions on the plane. Make sure you DON'T route it thru the carbon/fiberglass tube as it reduces the signal strenght.

I'm thinking no.
Here's a choice of known motors>>tested to be tried and true:
Het - 4 turn 2200 kv about 60-65 $
E-flite 6 pole 2700kv 70-80 $
medusa research 28-40 2500kv V2 70-80$
mega motors 16-25 -2 2650kv 120 $

All of these will work and mount into the stock mount. You need a minium of a 60 amp ESC I use e-flite but you can use a quailty one NOT a no name brand one.
same on rec. you want to go with a top name brand. I have found that you get what you pay for. Plus if you crash an destory parts most top mfg. will replace for 1/2 price.
The next will be batterys. You need 20c minium 2200ma. the larger the c rating the harder you can push them. I am using 30c rated 2200ma currently. Again batterys are your gas tank and if they can't produce then everything else is a waste.

The table posted is one that I go by on the Stryker thread. All have been tested and info is correct. On a Funjet they perform even better due to reduced drag on the airframe.
Props can stay the same.
CP

Oh the current set with battery ready to toss weighs 20 oz

kv and low resistance is the key. Many think that the higher the kv the faster it will go. You have to include in the plan the amp draw. Ducted fan motors have huge kv to get high rpms to equal thrust. They draw big amps. You can still draw big amps with a prop but you also want a balance of amps and rpms and thrust.

Using the motors in this table will insure just that. You can run the mega within the specs. and easily turn 150's mph.

So the KDA 28-47-15turn S is better than the KDA 28-47-09turn S. It seems the kv is higher on the 09 and the resistence is lower as well. The 15 lists it's max current at 27A and the 09 states a max current of 45A. I guess I still don't have this down yet. Workin on it!

I understand the lure of a cheap motor..........cost. I can tell you that you won't be happy with those motors. You get what you pay for. I would stay away from those.
I would incourage you to use the motors of of the chart. Yes they cost more. In the long run they perform better, how, cheap motors run hot, heat is wasted power=slower plane. The less waste in heat = more power and speed. I still have the 1st motor I bought 3-4 years ago. Multiplex 480 6D still runs.

I can't state the difference between low cost and high end. If you can just want and save up. Check you Local hobby Shop...many have lay away...i use this a lot as I'm a low budget flyer. You will be much more happy for years if you purchase a quailty motor.
CP

If cost is really an issue PM me your budget and I'll shop for you.
