OK
I made it to the LHS. I will do the rebuild on Sunday.
I did some research and I bought the new e-flite esc the 60 amp on. Very impressed with what it will do as far as the set directions. It can run up to 6 cells.
On 3 cells or less you don't have to use the built in BEC. I'll post a link
http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLA1060
You should check it out. If it works I think this will become a standard. I payed 74.99

Can't wait to get my funjet out and test its abilities but weather has been uncooperative. Yesterday, rain all day, today howling winds.

Well I had to do something else so I ordered an A4 ducted fan jet from Hobby Lobby and just finished it. Now I have to wait to fly this too. I don't think it will hold a candle to the funjet's speed but it looks pretty cool.

Here are some pics.

Tow Cobra, That A-4 you have will do 110-120 with the proper setup just so you know. OH and no it doesn't require 5S or 6S to do it. Does it on 4S and the 5 blade alfa fan with LSJS motor.

LETS get a Motor for this bad boy(FUNJET) even Stryker! Max voltage 22.2v/6 lipo.. Who are the contenders???uhmm

I see that www.medusaproducts.com has a New V2 series 28mm and 36mm motors. The biggest 28mm that they have is 56mm in long. WOW.....
I think they will overshadow the Neumotors 11XX/series and Mega 16/25/series motors in performance and efficiency . Also they are offering a introductory price at medusa.

I think I will start off with the ARC-28-47-1.5 from (www.lightflightrc.com) first, $65 shipped. I promised dave that i would get the 28-47-1.5.

If money is real tight, I might go with a (HXT 2145) http://www.****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5222 for

Everybody and there mother use the Mega 16/25/series...proven platform. I want to be different (very..fast) to break 150.3mph barrier So I think that Medusa is the winning ticket.....but we need test done..

What we need is a power comparison on the bench for these motors. anyone???

Price comparison..lets look!
1-Neu 11XX/series= from $73-$124 King of the hill power/reliabilty/power.damn expensive
2-Mega 16/25/series- $ approx $95-$105.... Queen to the king/reliabilty/ also expensive
3-Medusua research= $69.95- $87-95 ( introductory price just came out in late march)... KING slayer maybe!!!!!! we need test!
4- ARC 28mm/series motors (www.lightflightrc.com)= $49.95-$59.95. ...The General..perfect balance for Reliabilty/price/performance.
5-HXT 2145 -****= $19.50..cheap/cheap...power???/ reliabilty??
some one put in on there Funjet review under product spec...

SUCCESS
Everything worked on the 2 test flights.
Picked up a little more speed-guessing 5-10 mph. With the exposed motor it was NOT WARM. Batts. warm but I think less then before I made changes. I had 3 exp. flyers at the feild with 20 = years fly exp. check the results and watch the plane fly. All held the batts. in there hands "that's nothing"
The biggest improvement was on verticle climbs as alll the weight and drag is being pushed by the prop--I could still go verticle at 3/4 power.
This is the set up on the FJ

e-flite 2700kv motor
apc 5.5x4.5 prop
e-filte 60amp esc
polyquest 2150 3 cell
Flight weight-- 23oz--Picked up weight with the new ESC --org was 20 1/2 oz
I will post build pics in the morning. I did not shoot vids as I didn't have enough time. I will get vids.--promise.

The plane final trim settings
elevator trim 0 elevon dead even with the center on the wing
alns. 1 click up on the right
So all power is now pushing straight thru the nose.
Very good day!!!
CP

Sounds good, CP, Looking foreward to your video.

I hope to get my FJ out this week with 4S pack, Mega motor, and Eflite 60A ESC.

I also hope to maiden the A4 I just built. It has a 4500 KV motor so that should really be screaming at high RPM but probably won't move as fast as the FJ.

We'll see.

The rest of the pics.
I did patch and repair crash damaged and did some paint touch up. Don't you just love the 1/2 spoon air scoop. Canopy made from a 2 liter drink bottle. Simple low budget up grade
Rear deck is super thin plywood-couple of 1/4 sq. stock rails for the ESC-3/8 sq. stock to hold canopy screws-hot glue-paint --FLY--SMILE REALLY BIG!!!!!!!

Well
Here it is in living color. Less drag = more speed at better eff. on motor-batts.-plane. Oh !! and much bigger smile on my face.

One thing I left out on the other post--it is much more responsive to the controls--it could be me as I haven't flown in 3 weeks--I'll see as I'm flying at lunch today.
I also had other planes in the air which I don't like unless I have flown with them before--so I was having to watch and fly at the same time until 1 member starting spotting for me.
Today I will go solo and should be able to get a better feel on the changes.

The e-flite 60 amp was very impressive--no BEC needed until you pass 6 servos. You do have to program it for the # of cells your running. Lipo cutoff is default at 70% so no damage will take place unless you run a partial charged pack. Worked great and at 75-85 bucks you can't go wrong for the features. Can be programed on the comp. but the changes are easy with the well written instructions right in the plane.

Back from my flying lunch
Improvements are the real deal. I was able to make passes about 10 ft any and there is speed increase even with 2-3 oz more in weight.
The biggest is the vert. climb. full throttle and it appears it does NOT slow down going form flat level to vert..
Check the above pics. to see the tail end of the plane--removing the stock mount makes a BIG diff.
I was able to vert. climb with a little less then 3/4 throttle actually a little more then 1/2.

When I first built the FJ I was concerned about the motor mt. as it appears to block a lot of air to the prop. I understand that you must make the plane easy to produce and easy to assemble and yes the stock mount is semi flow thru--but running the speeds and rpms on high performance planes, the prop is straved for a clean bit into the air.

Remember this FJ only has a 3 cell batt. 2700kv motor and APC 5.5x4.5 prop. I haven't started to play with the props....yet or the batts. lord only knows how fast it will run on 4-5 cells--which I don't have--will have to buy some
Elevons are balsa and double checked the flight trim--dead center of the wing 1 click up on the right ( facing the motor looking forward )

I have to get vids. as this is really a great plane.
