Cool. I see alot of synthesized radio only ebay auctions and was wondering if Hitec servos (on the Sav) work with Futaba, Jr, etc.

Cool!

I think they are all compatable...some you have to swap the pins inside the connector...I forget...it has been awhile since the late 80's!

I have never had to swap the connectors. I only use JR, Futaba , Hitec, or Spektrum so I cannot be sure of the other radios out there. All of the 4 brands I just mentioned are compatible with eachother, like I said futaba servos need a little tab clipped off to be used in other RX's but it works fine.

No word from Otto yet on tonight.

Yeah he has been MIA...

I saw a Mini LST (not interested in 1/18th just yet) on amain for $109

and it came with a synth fm radio plus the 2 engine truck/etc. For that price you basically get a radio for the price and the truck/gear is free. Not sure if these kind of AM synthesized radios are any good. I think synth radios don't use crystals but can you still get intereference from another radio?

Basically you choose which channel you run on. So after you chose the channel if someone flips the same channel on their radio you still get interference. My Hitec radio has small dials you program in your frequency. I get the normal FM recievers because at 30 dollars I'd rather swap crystals than pay for a synthesized reciever (which are what now 70+ dollars?)

The mini LST as a lot of drivetrain problems and is now outdated, but a good price nonetheless.

So a straight up FM is the way to go? What does synthesized accomplish? Is even DSMSpektrum not foolproof?

But don't crystals cost alot to have/replace?

2.4 gHz works in a different way, no one can be on the same channel with that frequency so no chanc eof interference.

As for your last question let me put it this way. A synthesized FM reciever goes for 70-80 dollars. A FM I can get for 30. I do need a crystal but I can get those for about 7 each. So its a 37 versus 80 dollar price difference. I don't need crystals for my radio because it has a synthesized module. So basically I have 3 different channels 85, 90, and 77 by having those crystals and I just switch the crystal in my RX. The TX I just turn the dial to the matching channel.

All synthesized radios are is they can be changed manually from channel to channel without swapping crystals. Synthesized receievers are similar but too pricy, so I use regular ones.

I can explain it to you more tonight and show you my synthesized radio.

I understand.

You want to use the radio in multiple vehicles. Multiple $30 receivers is better then multiple Synth receivers. Crystals are inexpensive relatively speaking.

Say I had 5 models one radio.

Synth - $100 radio + 5 x ($75) = $525 to run 5 independent cars, no receiver sharing.

FM - $100 radio + 5 x ($30) = $250 plus the cost of crystals for how many independent cars you want to run independently. Since obviously you drive one at a time...it boils down to having a simple variety of crystals hopefully no one else has on raceday.

Hmmmm. Good for pro racers I guess. FM sounds fine to me!

Exactly, I have 3 different frequencies that I will bring to the mini nationals, the chances that I am in a heat that someone else has all 3 of the same channells are negligable.

I honestly didn't even think I needed a radio with a synth module until I got the oppurtunity for the Hitec for 1/2 price, its such a nice radio.

So are you saying to the mini nats you are bringing the fm/3 crystal combo or the more versatile Synth since there is a good chance alot of people may need the extra choices and that you are using one/few r/c's and don't care about one transmitter/one receiver??

Hey Matt,

I am looking to buy one of these in about a month (trying not to spend money on R/C for a month).

Better than the stock servo which only does maybe 90 ish in.lb for torque this will do 130 and is metal gears, I may want to get something in the 150 ish range but this is a low cost option.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXS361&P=ML

Maybe we can order together to save on shipping (later down the road) only if you are interested of course.

I got some of those last year, they are really big, I decided to use the Futaba servo saver instead. Same torque but smaller in size.
