i have the complete kit coming. i have to build a new workbench since its 98 in long and i couldnt get it upstairs. wifey will let me build it up stairs. i want to use door cores as they are flat and a 2x4 frame. any ideas or plans anyone willing to share? she will be electric with 4 eflite power 1.20 motors or 5120 axis. all the turrets move and the frames and cross sections on the wing are 100% scale. the retracts complete with glennis wheels run 1400. sounds like a lot but ive seen greg hahns and mike kramer knows what hes doing

Doors will only be around 81" unless you have a couple 8's. Another option is 3/4" MDF over a straight frame. Very flat.

True, but I like how straight and flat a work surface it makes. When I did solid surface fabrication, it was MDF we made the tables out of.

i need to put casters on it so i can move it around. I didnt realize how big this thing is! I cand imagine building the 1/6 scale. wow! 2x4 frame ply top with levelers so i can check for flatness. cores are too small. ill be able to buy a small hose for the cost of this when done but it will be worth it

Looking forward to pictures. I love the B-17. I just watched the old black and white movie 'AIR Force' again last night. And I watched '12 o'clock High' over the week end. Wish they would bring back the old series.

Excuse my ignorance, what is "MDF"? I need a large flat surface for my next project too.

Thanks.

mdf is a multi density fiberboard its straight and true. at 98 inches long the living room is the only place i have ill be able to move the bench due to the casters. a 2x4 frame will be used. all i do is pay for materials labor is free as the kids to it as a project!

You might want to thing of ripping it down to 36". 36" X 98" is still a good size table but much easier to maneuver around.

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with that channel, but I'm going to try and find it.

A 36" or 30" wide table will be much easier to work around, than a 48".

Another thing I thought about was maybe ripping 12" off and then using some piano hinges and making a fold-down section across the front.
