WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!

If this is a bad joke, it's not at all funny!

How awfully sad.

Go out and fly today, as tomorrow you may not.

I'm wondering myself if this is a joke in poor taste. Just out of curiosity I did a search as the Saginaw News and my hometown paper the Kalamazoo Gazette use the very same web site, www.mlive.com . I found no obituary notice for a Timothy Thompson. One was found in Las Vegas that showed the wrong date and no mention of a 10 year-old son that he claimed to have from a posting in the Off-Topic Boats forum that may have been deleted.
I did notice that Timothy last posted on the 2nd, a day before his death. I've also got his home phone number and I'd call it now except for it being 1:30 AM.
I would think that with him being a school teacher for the Saginaw Public School system that there would have been some kind of article in the Saginaw News.

I talked to Tim's wife this morning, it is confirmed he did die in his sleep on the morning of the 3rd. I made parts for a few of his projects including the cockpit parts for this B-17 project, he was very appreciative and always went over the top thanking me. We were also building a 1/6 Royal Corsair together, it's just hard to believe. He had no health problems and they could not find a cause of death in the autopsy, he was only 47 years old.

Impressions of a Pilot
Gary Claude Stoker

Flight is freedom in its purest form,
To dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
To roll and glide, to wheel and spin,
To feel the joy that swells within.

To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
Then back to earth at the end of the day,
Released from the tensions which melted away.

Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me no pity and shrug off the pain,
Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again.

For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know,
I was born to fly.

I'm sure Tim would be very happy to know that he had so many friends in the modeling community and would be honored by the beautiful comments shared on this forum. I too admired his work and believe that he contributed greatly to this hobby and to his friends. I had the opportunity to speak with Tim on many occasions in reference to the B-17 and feel a great person loss by his passing. My condolences go out to his family at this very sad time. Happy modeling Tim!!!

I am shocked and saddened by this tragic loss. Our passion is making flying models look real. This IS reality. My own father died in a plane crash in 1966 at the age of 38 as I just turned 13. My family and I have lived through this and truly, our hearts go out to Tim's family. Tim seemed very proud of his family and shared that with all of us through this forum. I'm glad we were all in on his last project and also hope someone will finish it for him for us all to enjoy and admire. It will be even more special now. Thanks Tim.
