I promise not to hijack your thread, just bring a little camaraderie and add a couple of shots of our progress on the Wingspan 1/9 scale. Frank's building, I'm paying. He is a Top Gun level builder with several B-17's in his resume already. I am always shocked by how much progress he's made every weekend when I come by with a camera. Still, anticipated maiden flight day is not till Spring '09. He enlarged the rudder a little to be what he considers scale and set back the firewalls some from plan specs to allow for good prop position on the Saito 125's we're installing.

no not all all your welcome to join in! mines going to be a leccy 4 power 1.20 or equivalent axi

lipos in the fuse. I really wonder if this would over power the bird as 4 4130 axi's would work maybe

my van has fold down seats. i can fit a fully assembles gp tiger moth in her so I already measured. You ought to see the 1/6 scale makes mine look little but i dont have the money for that. The hardest part is you must be able to read plans as there are no instructions, what puzzles me is mike shows the servos in the stabs and fin but that would mean control horns(yuk) he also has a servo plate in the stab area inside the plane. I think he tried to satisfy both types of builders

Sounds like you have a plan for transport. I saw the link on the 1/6 scale and checked it out. What a beauty. I saw a 17' wing span B-17 fly at the Byron show in the early 90s (their B-29 had crashed the year before). It had (4) 4.2 Sacks engines I think, and a pilot and co-pilot both with transmitters. It was awesome. Yours will be impressive in it's own right. I am going to send you a link to some internal actuators. Very cool and very scale like.

thats what i was looking for the aileron thank you. ill use old fashioned torque rods on rudder and elev. each elev will have its own high torque servo . Reports are 90 oz will be enough but im going higher for saftey. Also ill run two jr 6v 3000mah packs parallel for power as this monster will take a lot of servosat least 15-20 servos

1 rudd
2 elev
1 bombbay
1 tail wheel steering
3 retacts
2 aileron
2 flap

Looks great. The B-17G cuts one fine profile IMO.

heres the guns. OMG they are perfect resin replicas and the turret motors. motors will run on 2 aa batts and use a servo to reverse the polarity so the turrets rotate. im not elevating guns having the turrets rotate via radio is enough for me. again kudos to mike and his company he puts all others to shame
