the mailman delivered my trex 450 tail rotor parts from fxaeromodels today (hs1201t-72, $33 + priority mail)...i already had the esky tail gear box (ek5-0398, $19.99 + $3 shipping from jaghobbies), so decided to install both...the new tail works verrrry well, but i don't know if it's worth close to $60 for the bling (could have bought a bare bones kit, lol)...here's a pic (the take-off and leftover parts are in the bag)...ken

Hey Ken did that pitch slider come with the esky parts or the Trex parts? Also does it work with the stock pitch arm (plastic)? Tail looks good especially the where the slider links to the grips. Thanks Gittle

the stock pitch arm has a brass bushing for the pivot...the trex arm has a ball bearing...the inner diam. of the ball bearing is 2mm, whereas the bushing is about 3mm...that's the only glitch in mating the trex slider/grip parts to the esky alum tailcase...however, i'm confident that you can find a better way than i did, to fit a 2mm bolt into a 3mm hole w/o slop (fill it w/ jb kwik and drill it out)...lol...btw, the stock esky tailcase is too flexible where the arm pivots -- and you have the problem of mounting the trex arm w/ bearing and 2mm bolt into the soft, flexible plastic...bottom line -- if you choose to use the trex parts, you should use the esky alum tailcase too...hope that helps...ken

Another thing that is nice about the CNC vs the stock piece...the blade grip control rods have ball links on BOTH sides...well...maybe not ball links, but they are flexible. lol.
The stock one was solid to the control arm...i had to loosen mine up a bit just to prevent binding.
Definately looking forward to the upgrade as my next major purchase.

That looks great Ken. I guess most importantly you say it is much better in the air after swapping the tail so I guess it's worth it.. But I do feel ya though about the bare bones kit instead.. I would opt for everything included in the bare bones over a bling tail.

you read my mind...however the bare-bones kit has more of the under-engineered plastic parts with bugs that need to be dealt with...the trex tail mod is a significant improvement (although it was flying satisfactory without it)...with the mod, i'm confident that the tail will stick to wherever i put it -- as you know, it takes confidence to progress in this hobby...some of us can't stop fiddling with our helis and blinging until we're satisfied with the flight performance...my raptors and logos are so solid that they're almost boring to fly...lol...btw, the added weight of the alum parts required a 1/4 oz. bullet sinker in the nose of the canopy (i used to bass fish using the carolina rig with 1/4 oz slider sinkers and jelly worms)...ken

I came across this today and wonder if anyone has ever tried to use a HDX300 CNC tail on their HBK2... I thought I read somewhere that people have successfully installed it. You thoughts??? Here's the link.

it should work (along with other micro and mini heli cnc tail assemblies)...the main concern is the 8mm boom diameter of the hbk2...that's been overcome by cutting a slit in a piece of damaged boom, and slipping that over the boom, which increases the diameter (if that's necessary)...ken

Thanks guys. I''m gonna go ahead and give it a try. I''ll let you know the results.
...And, does it work? I am ordering from CNCHelicopter.com to get the 450 head with the correct swash to install on my King. I will get this as well if at this point I know for sure if it will work (mod?)..
Thanks....

so what the word on this tail mod???? does it work well?? is the rear drive pulley on this tail bigger then the stock HBK2 drive gear?? if it is I would think the tail would be even slower then the stock tail. I put a e-flite rear rotor shaft on my HBK2 and it made the tail VERY lazy! if the CNC upgrades from the 300 helis have bigger drive pulleys I would think they have the same lazy effect??

I run that EXACT HDX300 tail on my HBK2. The tail boom for the HDX300 is 1mm larger than the HBK2. I use a piece of heat shrink tubing on the boom, that makes it fit perfect. Its much much smoother than either the stock plastic or the cnc esky part. I love it.
